Lately I've been seeing a lot of people who have 10,000+ AP, and all they've done is rate 1,000 games and comment a million times. While I'm over here just playing games I like, and having fun in the forums. So even though I'm not worried about AP too much, it just kind of annoys me that that's all they care about on the site.

My question to you guys is what do you think the best way to gain AP is? Would you respect someone if they were #1 on the site but had never made a single forum post? Or how about if all they had were forum posts?

I just comment once and rate the new games and comment on forums

I agree, now I dont want the person to only have posts though, that defeats the point of the site. I want them to have a good balance of ratings, reviews, and posts. Id be okay if 1 or 2 were favored though.

I think foruming is teh best way. The pm system is for excahnging informations. Not to chat.

Ahem.. You are still a "newb". :P Jk.

The BEST way to get AP is from writing reviews on game, and getting merits for them.
I would NOT respect a #1 user if they didn't have ANY forum posts. If he/she only had forum posts, sure!

i think that the most respectable way to gain AP is to rate games and comment on them because that what what the site was made for
but thats what i think but i still post a lot and rate games and that too

I dont have any armor points im just here for the games!
I think that exploring the forums is great plus making comments one games that you actually played is fine.

Look, you should understand that there is no prize for collecting AP. No one comes to your house and offers you a parade for aquiring so many points. Women will not lift their shirts up and say, "Please bang me with your APs! You're oh so throbbing APs!"

Not gonna happen.

Here's the basic rule for Armor Games. Come for the games, stay for the APs.

Enjoy what the site has to offer and when you are here long enough, you get to have as many APs as you have earned to that point!

Then, one day, when you have reached as many APs as those legends you speak of, you will realize that you have absolutely no life.

Well...you never know Cen you never know...the world is weird...

Gaining merits or posting on Forums? It doesn't matter actually...no respectable way, since if you do it properly, all are.

I can always hope, I guess.

Yup. It does not matter what you do, it matters how you do it.
And fascinating how long this thread has become since most of this has been stated seven times already.

All the better to drum it in, since if there's one thing man is good at, it's turning a deaf ear to things he doesn't want to hear.

I'd have to say any post, comment, rating, merit, and game submission, is a respectable way to gain merit. They are all respectable so long as they are sincere and thought out submissions. Someone who has played a game for hours and has thoroughly thought about what rating to give it, in my book, has obtained AP in a respectable way. Same with a thought out post or comment (and don't forget about game submissions).

One part of the problem is that all the methods of giving out AP (except for submitting games and merits) give out AP freely. It's free in the sense that the content being submitted does not undergo any initial quality assurance test. A spam comment and a merit worthy comment both initially receive two AP. If no one notices them they become buried many pages back and get lost, never to be flagged or made into a merit, becoming equal in value. It's only when the spam comment is flagged and the merit worthy comment is seen by a mod that they become different in value.

Another part of the problem is this; decent but not merit worthy comments do not gain any more AP than spam comments. User A may assume that User B has posted a bunch of lousy comments to gain AP when User A sees on User B's profile that they have over 100 comments and no merits. (It is then assumed the AP was not gained in a respectable way.) The same applies for posts. Without reading several of a specific users posts it is very difficult to know whether that user posts quality comments or not. Most users probably do not spend the time to hunt down a bunch of posts from one user to determine how thought out their comments are. So the typical user may assume that a user with a high post count has several, poor quality, one or two sentence posts and has not gained AP in a respectable way. However, posts only count for one AP and posting, to some, may seem to be a more time consuming task than commenting. This may make it seem like a user with a high post count has given a lot of quality time to their posts when it is possible that the user just went about posting low budget comments like cool, and yeah I agree with that (which would probably be a non-respectable method for gaining AP).

Merits are the easiest way for any user to see and identity that another user has done something quality and has gained AP respectably. Only a few clicks are required to see how many merits a user has and, thus; how respectably that user has gained their AP. Checking the number of merits a user has is much easier than checking whether a user has given quality comments and posts. This probably stops the typical user from using other factors to determine if AP has been gained respectably.

Submitting games is much like merits. It is probably common knowledge that programing a flash game, even if it's only a mediocre one, takes quite a bit of time. So game submissions are most likely to be considered respectable.

Ratings really cannot be rated (no pun intended) unless you know a specific user personally and know their personal habits. Some people probably rate games without even playing them (non-respectable). While others make sure to play a game thoroughly before rating the game (respectable).

Merits and game submissions are the easiest way to identify respectably AP gains. This misleads people into assuming they are the most respectable way to gain AP when, in fact, all the methods are respectable. This makes it hard to determine which method is the most respectable way to gain AP. Factors that are to be considered, in which method is most respectable way to gain AP, become very interpersonal in this scenario, only the individual users themselves can determine which posts, comments, game ratings, merits, and game submissions have given them AP in a respectable way.
