Sorry for the DP, but I thought I'd reply to this post:
The UK is very ethnically diverse with long traditions of the people within it's borders hating each other. Not to mention the recent influx of increasingly radical Muslims.
We've had Pakistanis and Indians in the UK for years. The whole thing that they are increasingly radical is a myth. The only thing that's changed is that the radical minority are getting a hell of a lot more air time than they used to due to the 9/11 and 7/7 bombings. Most of the gun crime that occurs in the UK is criminal on criminal and mostly West Indian or African gangs in the ghettos of East and South London.
xD I feel so sad for you Americans. It's an even 18 in some provinces. Ah, Canada. Thou art truly a country of beauty and wonder.
Heheh. I dislike American teens my age for just these reasons. I live in a town where the only things to do in winter is ski, bowl, watch movies, and drink. Most kids here are cheap, or dislike the outdoors, and their parents have full liquor cabinets and aren't very watchful. The drinking age seems to be in place here for a good reason. The kids here are pretty crazy when they are without supervision. America isn't that bad though... Seriously, most of the European countries have had kind of a head start when it comes to making stable governments with decent infrastructure.
The drinking age seems to be in place here for a good reason.
Many of the nations with the lowest drinking ages ie., 16 have the lowest drunken disorderly and social issues.
Binge drinking is a cultural thing. Whatever the legal stance, people will be able to get their hands on alcohol. I'd have thought you'd a learnt that from prohibition. Silly Americans.
Guns themselves can't be bad, only the people wielding them.
To come back on the 'if a guy wants to kill someone, he'll do it, with or without a gun'.
Fairly speaking you'dd have a lot more chance surviving a knife stab than a gun fired at point blank range. Also killing with a gun is easy, just pull the trigger and you're done, with a knife or other weapons it sometimes requires multiple stabs/hits, which leaves room for reconsideration... What's easier? Controlling your rage when a small twist of your finger will kill someone, or controlling your rage when you have to cross some distance and attack?
