inorite?
why drink beer when it doesn't even taste good at your current age? dummies...
When I was about 14, I started to get into drinking. I used to love alcopops and sugary drinks, including really cheap ciders. I just found that as you get older, beer really does start to taste nice.
I think part of the problem Americans have is that most of their mass produced stuff is so terrible. American beers are like American cars. Built the same way for generations, powerful, uninspiring and slightly unreliable.
Some drinks with an ABV about 10% like wine and beer could be allowed then, but not the other drinks with a higher ABV.
I personally like the German system. 16 for beer and 18 for spirits. It seemed to work pretty well, and despite being more lenient than UK drinking laws, there was in fact much less disorderly behaviour that I could see.
There are beers with an ABV about 0.5% (OK usually don't taste very good), everybody can drink such beers, imagine that a fruit juice has an ABV about 0.1% Also it has been proven that when kids drink a bit alcohol at young age it's less probable that when they become adults become alcoholics.

0.5% is classed as a "dealcoholised" drink I think.
Bearing in mind I would say 90% of people here start drinking before 18 it is pretty good evidense to say it doesn't kill your brain cells by 45. I've drank alcohol since I was a child (granted it was just sips at meal times) and I'm fine. And like Firefly I have been drinking since my early teens.... never got into alcopops though >.>

They're great when you're young, because you're comparatively lightweight, so you don't need much to get hammered, and because your palette isn't developed enough to genuinely enjoy the bitter taste of beer anyway.

I think it's 0.5% or less. I've had some of C2, Carling's 2% lager marketed for sportsmen, and it was actually quite nice after a 5 aside tournament. Not sure I'd ever order it in a pub though, for fear of ridicule. I don't really see much point in less that that though, because you can't really taste it.
I will probably never understand why people drinking alcohol. I've actually tried the stuff on accident twice before, and both times spat the stuff out immediately. If you say that you don't drink beer for the taste then fine, but whats so great about getting drunk either? I've never heard a single story of anything good that comes out of it.(At least for the person who is drunk that is)
As far as the drinking age here is concerned...I think its fine where it is for now.
Oh how I love the US. You can have a gun from when you get born pretty much, you can drive a car from 16, but no drinking before 21. There is nothing fun about drinking anyway besides for other people.

The point of drinking is that it essentially enhances your night out. Sure, it's nice going out with mates. It's even nicer going out and getting drunk with mates. The social aspect is what I started drinking for, and I don't regret it. Being drunk is a nice sensation. The situations you end up in are often hilarious, and as long as you know your limits, there need'nt be any unpleasant experiences, (not to say I haven't had my fair share of those either.)
As for the taste, yes it does taste good. It's just an acquired taste you have to get used to. If you never drink until the age of 21, chances are you probably aren't ever going to be a big drinker anyway.
