Strop made a thread about this a long time ago, but I couldn't find it. Even if I did, I would get yelled at for raising the dead, so lets just continue conversation here.
You guys may not understand what I'm trying to ask, but it's okay. I'll try to explain.
Do you think God, If there is one, would allow a person to go back in time and change history?
This thread is mostly for Christians, but you atheist may join in too. Since I'm an atheist I think this will be interesting.
No one knows the mind of God. Everything that happens he has planned and is all part of his will. So if time travel ever came to be then yes, God has allowed it.
For the fun of it, I'm writing a science fiction-ish book that involves time travel. With the time machine, anything that gets changed cannot change the future, or the time changer is eliminated from existence to resolve the problem. But before this radical solution, "time", so to speak, tries to find a solution in which the events will be able to logically lead one to this future. As long as everything stays the same in the time changer's mind, then everything can be stabalized. So for this question, I would think that God would allow time travel so long as it didn't have long-term effects.
but if nothing can be changed then what is the need to time travel ??
Suppose you want to save a life. When traveling back in time, first you need to save the life. Then, you need to conceal the life from society so that you THINK that life was killed. Then, you will be inspired to go back in time and save the life.
What I want to know bigP is how can God stop me? I thought he would stay out of human affairs until the apocalypse. I though he belived in free will.
I should be more clear. I think time travel would be possible so long as it didn't have long-term effects that could not be stabalized. God doesn't really have to do anything here.
oh okay, I think I got it.... but then does that person have to "live in the shadows" the rest of his/her life?? and if so then what kinda life is that

Well, that's just an example. In my book, people don't want to get too involved in time travel anyway. Hopefully if this life thing happened, the person was killed within a few years of the interference from the future. Otherwise... yeah, that would suck. :P
you still didn't answer me bigP. How can god physically stop me from pushing the button. How can he do this with out violating free will?
The button wouldn't work because it would be a logical impossibility that resulted in you perishing from existence. God wouldn't stop you from pushing the button, but if you do something that affects your mindset or existence, you disappear. Anyway, this was mostly made up by me anyway, but I thought it might make sense in this context too.
