Strop made a thread about this a long time ago, but I couldn't find it. Even if I did, I would get yelled at for raising the dead, so lets just continue conversation here.

You guys may not understand what I'm trying to ask, but it's okay. I'll try to explain.

Do you think God, If there is one, would allow a person to go back in time and change history?

This thread is mostly for Christians, but you atheist may join in too. Since I'm an atheist I think this will be interesting.

God wouldn't allow it, which is why he developed laws of relativity. Einstein confirmed you can move forward in time but never backwards.

so as soon as I hit the button I disappear from time and space into another dimension and die?

Well, assuming that button causes a change in the past that results in affecting your mindset, yes. Sucks, huh?

I thought you could go travel forward by going the speed of light or faster. I don't know much about the details, but you can travel back if were able to get down to the size of an atom or something. I know there was a pretty good hypothesis on it in Borders some where...

The idea of time travel being caused when you go faster than the speed of light is theorised from General Relativity.

Speed and time is relative, so its all crazy...like if I'm running and you're standing still then I am actually slowing down time and stuff. But only for me.

If it's impossible then it never becomes possible =P

If it is possible then you are saying it just isn't possible for US at this moment.

So you are saying it is possible, but we aren't capable of it?

I think he means the theory is there but the actuality isn't.

You cannot change history through time travel. Whatever 'change' you hope to implement by travellng back to the past, it would have already occured, and so would not actually be a change.

In answer to the theological side of the question, would God prevent this? I don't think so. From a purely Christian point of view, God lets man exercise free will. So, no. He wouldn't intervene.
