In an attempt to keep another thread on topic I decided to create this one. How important was Jesus? In my opinion he is the single most important man in human history. Was he God? Well honestly that's not what this is about so shh go argue on some other thread.

Dude, what the ****, not everything in the Bible can be faith based. Even the ****ing roman's had him in their records. Jesus Christ you know nothing.

The Bible is about as historically accurate as the story of King Aurthur. That's why you want records independent of the Bible and that's why I won't accept the accounts in the Bible. Now you say there are external records I would like to see them.

But even if there was a real person the story was based on it still wouldn't mean he was anything like the person in the Bible. Many works of fiction will base characters off real people. Not to mention Jesus's back story of being born to a virgin preforming miracles dieing and coming back to life was one that was heavily repeated well before Christianity even existed.

What Would Jesus NOT Do?

That's because the Romans adopted Christianity, as their own religion (probably the reason Christianity spread so quickly and survived I might add). It wouldn't make sense for him not be in their records.

Besides the faith based stuff, the Bible is an great source of history. The problem is just separating the two. I'm not saying you should accept it, or the religious stuff is correct, the Bible is just is very historically accurate some things.

And how does one go about separating the two?

Hahahahahaha...hahahaha....hahahahahahahahahahaha, oh WOW your a genius aren't you? The bible is the SINGLE most historically accurate text EVER. The second most accurate the Iliad which like the bible has fact an faith mixed in. It's really not that hard to seperte the two, Israelites wonder in the desert (fact) Manna falls from heaven and feeds them (faith.) Not a single historical thing in the bible has been proved false and this is HUGE to the legitimacy of the faith based part of the Bible. It doesn't prove it but it does give it more credit.

Because Emperor Constantine apparently saw Jesus give him a thumbs up for pillaging some foreigners... Yet ironically.. He was baptized on his deathbed and for all purposes, still worshiped Pagan Gods..

Jesus was a real person and a great philosopher I might add...
I think most of the biblical stories are based off real events and just modified to give support to God. I know that Noah's Ark was based off a world wide "global warming" if you will. I read somewhere that there was geological evidence that at around 2000-1000 B.C. that there was a mini Ice Age and it began to melt resulting in flooding.

however... There is some historical inaccuraties. I'm pretty dam* sure that there was no Eden and I like how it "conveniently" disappeared from the face of the Earth. I also like how the bible was written by sheepherders and not government officials. Generally speaking, government records are fairly accurate. I trust the word of a educated bureaucrat than some hermit living off the land..
funny thing... If people are starving in the world... Why doesn't God feed them this "Mana" stuff? MageGaryWolf will be more than happy to tell you that there is several errors in the bible as well.

WTF does the Illaid have to do with anything?!? Homer was a great (polytheistic) poet who wrote the Illaid based off the Polypolsain War... I'm pretty dam* sure Achilles wasn't dipped into the river of Styx, Or if even Troy ever existed..

Accuracy like the ones pointed out in this video?
Bible Bullsh*t - Episode 1: Historical Inaccuracies

I would like to hear your to how your historical accurate text can't even seem to line up with history of Jesus's life time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBufxLab5ns

You can find the full series on page two here.

To take it as a useful historical text I would expect the stories of Mark, Matthew, Luke, and John to not be so contradicting to one another.

Israelites wonder in the desert (fact)

I guess you mean the Exodus an event talked about in the Bible something only has at best a sketchy external source.

A story most archeologists and historians do not regard as non-historical.

Now I wonder what do you make of these events?
Tower of Babel, fact or faith?
Noah's Biblical Flood, fact or faith?
Garden of Eden, fact or faith?

Because they will be fed with the faith of god and be rewarded in heaven... You take the bible WAY too seriously.

If I'm the one taking it so serious why am I the one not claiming it to be a reliable for historical accuracy?
