In all religions parents and other adults make kids prey, go to church, and follow many other religious things they do. They tell kids many scary and untrue things that the kids can not understand. Is this considered forcing and brain washing the kids into the religion. Here is a video of a "Jesus camp". So do you think kids have a free will when it comes to religion, or are they being brain washed?
Didn't bother to read after the first page so I don't know if anyone corrected you put it's pray not prey (although this could be a creative word choice?)
Anyway don't know how many of you know/remember/like/hate/are annoyed be but I'm a Christian so here's my counterargument.
First all children at this age are brainwashed whether into believing in God or not believing in God or any other opinion or viewpoint what so ever. When I think of brainwashing I think of taking someone ignorant to basic facts of the world and telling them things that highlight what you want them to believe in a positive manner. This is anything from telling that Jesus loves them to telling them that the world is perfect without some kind of deity. So are young children brainwashed into being religious/Christian? Yes, but more more than they are brainwashed to believe anything else.
Also to address some posts I read about not being old enough to make basic decisions I'm not entirely sure what makes you more qualified to make the decision God doesn't exist if you can't make the one that he/it does. This all goes back to the point that all adult figures tend to use bias facts to influence the minds of anyone who doesn't know any better.
Didn't think it would have, it's more of a hypothetical.
It is a church that beleives in the bible, so obviously they wouldn't take too kindly to anyone going there just so they could convert people to atheism. That's perfectly understandable.
Can't say I have seen an atheist go around trying to convert people to not believing.

No there's a difference between educating and brainwashing. For instance with my experience with learning about religion. My parents both decided I was to choose the path best for me. My mom was catholic so I had a lot of experience with that religion. My dad I suppose was closer to being a deist. I was never told what to believe. In fact when I came to my dad saying I believe X he would say are you sure and give me a counter point to that belief for me to think about even if he himself believed it as well. I was educated, they gave me there viewpoints and opinions to consider, but I was never told what to think.
I just watched the video and the entire time I watched it I was just like "..." something that really stood out to me were-during the first half when the lady is talking, she says "I'll do what you want me to do,I'll say what you want me to say,in Jesus's name" So,basically, isnt this telling the children that if they do something (good or bad)in the name of God,its ok? What if one of these children grow up to be a serial killer(this is purely hypothetical)and if he kills someone and is asked why he did it-would he say "I did it in the name of God" or "I did it because God told me to do it"? (This is just my opinion-I dont actually know if anything like that would happen in the future, but its just something that made me stop and basically think"what the ****?"
It all depends on your family and your religion. some people push religion on their kids more than others, and it's their right to. Really, all people are products of their upbringing, and everyone has been influenced by something, or someone. some, like the kids in Jesus Camp were just influenced more heavily than others. that being said, Yes. I do believe that some children are brainwashed by religion.
@OP, Jesus Camp is a full length documentary, the video you posted looks like more of just a bunch of clips from the movie. I would suggest watching the actual movie. It was very well made.

No, that would be stupid. Real atheists use the internet.

This. And the country you live in. Obviously there are countries that are more keen on strong religious upbringings, others are not.
I generally believe anyone should take a moment to figure out if they actually believe and what their grounds are instead of just following the herd because the herd says so. Everything gets stronger with a little doubt, and question your own faith will make you more whole as a person. It might lead you to concluding you don't believe in a god at all, or that you are unsure about this, or that you still, after asking yourself this question and any others, believe and have faith in your god/religion. The most important is not what you find out, but that you have asked yourself if this is really what you feel about it.

Agreed with you til the end. Placing feelings over facts can very easily lead to false conclusions.
Well i must say, and don't call me heretic or somethin that i believe there is a god but this god might not be, Jesus, or anyone else that is worshiped in religions. He (and we shall not forget, maybe She) is someone who is not spoken of from anyone and not worshiped by a religion. But i believe there is god. Anyway to this subject, i believe that Cenere is most right. It depends on the country and the policy of the family, etc.
This "Jesus Camp" topic has been done at least 5 times that I can see in the search. I know this because I made a topic on this was I was here before.
But, yes I do believe a lot of children are brainwashed into religion. It is extremely sad that these ignorant adults will take advantage of these children that do not know any better. It is sickening, actually.
Oh what fun! Are children brain washed into faith? Well one would think so. Most crazy Christian parents haul their kids to church and Sunday school and the kid sits there and takes it all in. Kids are pretty damn succeptable to crap like this at a young age. I remember believing in god at one point and why? Well folks it wasn't really belief, it was because my teachers and other people all told me he was real and when you're a kid you usually go along with what you're told. But, one day I realized something. All the stuff they shoved down my throat was bull. So I guess I was "atially brainwashed".
are people brain washed into learning tolerance, i mean kids now of days are raised thinking everyone is equal. This is a very bad argument, you are making it seem like "religion" is a bad thing by saying "brain washing" Parents have the right not only by law, but by common sense to teach their children what they think is right,(within limits) Just bec. you don't agree with something and some kid is being taught it does not mean the kid is being brain washed, of course kids usually don't like church, they have to get up early and sit still, they hate school to so are we brain washing them in school with science and history. The real argument would be is religion something to belive in? but as a kid your parents make those chices, and in 99% of the cases it is not brain washing, mainly bec. you can leave the religion once you are of age, and it is a choice.

How does teaching a kid to treat everyone with the same respect the same as what we see in that video?
Parents have the right not only by law, but by common sense to teach their children what they think is right,(within limits) Just bec.
I suppose we could ask if this falls out side of those limits? Is it acceptable to teach a kid in a way that limits there ability to reason and further more tells them if they don't believe X they will be punished?
they hate school to so are we brain washing them in school with science and history.
These are things based on facts not beliefs.

This is actually a good question. Since there is no evidence to back religion and even requires that yo believe without proof I would say no. Also as a kid my parents didn't force me to believe in what they believed in. They were willing to tell me what they believed and allowed me to participate if I so desired, but it was never forced on me against my choice. If fact my dad had me question those beliefs even when he himself did not. "Don't just believe what I'm telling you. Look it up for yourself and make your own decisions."
*Note this is aimed at the OP not the current conversation...
Maybe brainwashed is too strong a term, I think it's more like strongly influenced , I see you point as this happens ever since the child is incredibly young and even if the parent's don't do it the other children at school probably will.
Well Asherlee has grown agressive. Maybe she found a submisssive lesbo JK Ash luv ya! But anyway there is no way to truly know if someones brainwashed or not, so this is a pretty pointless thread.
