In all religions parents and other adults make kids prey, go to church, and follow many other religious things they do. They tell kids many scary and untrue things that the kids can not understand. Is this considered forcing and brain washing the kids into the religion. Here is a video of a "Jesus camp".

So do you think kids have a free will when it comes to religion, or are they being brain washed?

I don't think that people are brainwashed into religion, In the US, I think that maybe some Muslim kids in the Middle East are brainwashed, but generally, no.

I think they are. Their parents are wither brainwashed or they don't believe(I admire those ) and then they brainwash their children, etc.

So, I am brainwashed by... Who, again? I really want to know now. Otherwise I am going to call erratic scientific argument on you.

It actually depends on your idea of brainwash.

For some people brain wash may just be a simple way of believing in your god.

For others it may be being able to recite the 10 Commandments all in your head.

Believing in your God is not brainwashing at all , although sometimes you can't decide for yourselves or have a hard time getting out of it. Click he link, really. Don't worry , it's a YouTube video.

Now, saying the 10 Commandments at age 3 is weird, maybe in your 50's it's not as much. But yes, the video of the little kid reciting all that is scary.

You might be surprised how common place that initial reaction is.

[quote]I also think it's incredibly bad that they'll probably grow up to go on, without questioning Christianity, faithfully abiding to the rules of the religion.

That to me seals the envelope that it IS brainwashing.

I was like that as a child, up until about ten I had nothing but absolute belief in the gods (Hindu) But as I grew older I quickly started to question this belief so by the time I was thirteen I was a firm believer that god had a very little chance of existing. In my opinion most kids are like that eventually they'll start to wonder.

i've always thought this. to start off, if you dont know what something is, you immediately want to relate it to man or something you know, maybe nature. that (could be) where 'gods' come from. plus from birth your brain is a clean slate and if someone tells you there are gods up in the sky, you'll believe them. are 'they' nothing more then santa claus and the easter bunny?

Well parents do actually care so they make us believe in what they believe, honestly I think one main reason I'm catholic is because I came from a catholic family.

Maybe some are, but what's the alternative? Childhood is when you lear morals. It's when you learn how the world works. You can't simply not tell your kids about your faith, can you? I think my parents had the right approach: "This is what we believe. For now you have to go to church with us. When you're older you can either decide to make this faith your own, or you can choose another. The decision is yours, though we believe this way is correct." I made the decision to follow Jesus and I know it was the right one.
