Sh**, I'm like about to be fined a million dollars._.
For some reason, you are more likely to end up with a lawsuit if you live in the United States.
Actually, I think it is funny.
It is funny. Until you see that people aren't required to pay millions of dollars in compensation for those who suffered as a result of their actions, and you see people being fined in the millions for downloading a few hours of music. Then, it isn't funny.
"Only if the artist does not give permission for that song. If the artist does give permission it is fine. If the artist does not say anything than it is in the gray zone of law"said MrPockets
Since copyright law is something which you would not want to pore for too long, just assume that all the songs you heard are copyrighted. Unless you hear otherwise.

Really old songs aren't copyrighted are they? I've never been good at copy-right law but I think if they're over a certain age they're not copyrightable.... like Mozart and classic stuff (I loves my Grieg lol)
I think that the price you must pay if you download music is too high! not that i had to pay it once, but if some1 kills some1 else the price they'll have to pay(if they could pay) would be near the price for downloading music. And if you give money to the jury, based on how corrupt they are, you wont have to pay anything else than that.
And this 32 old woman must have done something else cos 80,000 is too high! i would say 50,000 or 30,000

Depends on copyright laws for countries/regions. Some made be 50 yrs., 75 yrs. Others are from the time of recording and others are timed from when the person/s die. Go read more about copyright law and the public domain.
Classical can't be copyrighted, because the composers have long been dead.
Copyright laws are BS. 10 to 20 years is good. After that, copyright should be done with. Now copyright lasts I beleive 75 years or something around that time, and after 75 years the copyright can be renewed. This means that copyright laws can last forever!
That, is BS. 75 years is the lifespan of a human. 20 years is plenty of time to profit off a product.
