AZ Immigration Law

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed a controversial bill Friday that makes it a crime for illegal immigrants to be in the state. The new law will require local police to seek proof of immigration status if there is reason to suspect individuals are illegal immigrants.

This means a situation in Arizona can go down like this:

Nice Mexican man born in Mexico, but is now a citizen. He is walking into a parking lot full of cars. He can't remember where he parked...
He looks around, checks a few aisles. In the mean time, a police officer is watching him.

This police officer, now, can approach this man simply by the color of his skin, demand to see proof of legally being in the country (visa, passport, social security card, etc).

Personally, this is a dark day in American history. They might as well slap a Star of David onto the Mexicans there.

No, I am not racist. I don't care if they are Mexican, black, white, green yellow, blue or freaking rainbow, get them out.

I don't see the logic. Whats wrong with immigrants if not their race? Whats the difference between being "legal" or "illegal". Humans are humans. If someone doesn't have citizenship, it does not deprive them of their humanity.

And uhum, consider California, Texas, Arizona, etc were Mexican land, why don't you get the f out?

I could care a less if they are racial profiling or not, just get these illegals out of my country and keep them out.

Oh yes, your country. As in, what? Your white man's country? I mean cmon, your making a distinction between yourself and every other immigrant here, as if this is your land and not their. Im not buying it that your not racist.

In which case they report it and get on with their lives?

I wish I lived in that sugar-coated world. Report it!? yea...right. Have you ever been robbed and had to deal with the police?
Here, we have the click it or tick it. You cannot get pulled over for not wearing a seatbelt. You can only be charged with it if there's another suspected offense with it. I'd suspect the same would be with this or it would be very tedious.

FOR ANY LAWFUL CONTACT MADE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIAL OR AGENCY
21 OF THIS STATE OR A COUNTY, CITY, TOWN OR OTHER POLITICAL SUBDIVISION OF THIS
22 STATE WHERE REASONABLE SUSPICION EXISTS THAT THE PERSON IS AN ALIEN WHO IS
23 UNLAWFULLY PRESENT IN THE UNITED STATES, A REASONABLE ATTEMPT SHALL BE MADE,
24 WHEN PRACTICABLE, TO DETERMINE THE IMMIGRATION STATUS OF THE PERSON. THE
25 PERSON'S IMMIGRATION STATUS SHALL BE VERIFIED WITH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT
26 PURSUANT TO 8 UNITED STATES CODE SECTION 1373(c).

It doesn't say anything about secondary crimes. This is a visual and behavioral game that the policemen now get to place.

Nope, living in a sugar-coated world.

Because all cops are out to get you, right?

Every cop's action against you is decided by a visual and behavioral aspects. Otherwise how would police capture anyone?

Rights are something people should have.
Privileges are what people do have.

Sorry Graham but Rights are something everyone has and, Privileges are earned.

Illegal immigrants are human beings that the majority from Mexico are average, hard working people that just want the best for their families. The best doctors, schools, jobs, and neighborhoods where they aren't afraid for their safety and the safety of their children. The drug wars in Mexico are becoming more lethal every week.
I don't know what the answer is but Arizona's bill reminds me of the ancient "bag um and tag um" run away slave days.
You're right, Asherlee, this is a very dark day in America.

Rights are something people should have because ideally everyone will always have them.

Privileges are what we do have because they can be taken away at any time.

It just gives policeman the right to ship off whomever to Mexico, like American-Latino runaways.

Look pepople this law in ways is not right but there was a reason this was made because things are getting out of control. There are thousands of illegale imagrants from Mexico comming over to America having multiple kids(the kids become American citizens because they were born here even though the parents are illegals). Most of these kids don't learn English very well, end up in a gang, and then they start alreadly having kids around age 15. This is why many states like CA for an example is broke. These illegals don't work, get free health care, the kids drain the school systems because they need extra classes, in other words the more kids they pop out the more money they get.

A true hard working Mexican can still get a green card and work here. If police stops them well they have legal pass to be here. If you want saftey and protection you have tobe willing to give up a little bit of freedom.

In conclusion I say great law AZ. Also this problem is not with Mexico, there are many illegals from other countries doing the same thing. People get out of your happy little bubbles and look what is really going on.

And you're lucky. Cops here, can ask anyone, for no motive whatsoever their documents.
And they are not videotaped, so what they claim, when they stop a single person is the thruth. Steer clear of italian cops...

This is a terrible law. It is the wrong way to go about the problem. Man, I agree, Nazi Germany in Arizona

It's funny how some people from U.S.A think this law is racist while their own army is killing people of all sorts of races and religion for their government.

You are ignorant to the art of war. Even though war sucks, you have to admit that we show our enemies A LOT more mercy than anyone ever did in the past. War used to be a battle between two nations, you kill whoever stands in your way. Now, we have to make sure they have weapons, look suspicious, and show signs of possible hostility; which is often very unclear and leads to the death of thousands of soldiers because they weren't able to pull off the first shot.

Don't even pull the war card. War isn't even about race, it's about politics.

Every cop's action against you is decided by a visual and behavioral aspects. Otherwise how would police capture anyone?

There are legal and illegal immigrants who break laws. On the same note, there are legal and illegal immigrants who live honest lives and are hard working people who don't break laws (aside from possibly being illegal immigrants). That being said, most people who were caught being in the country illegally were caught after committing a crime.

In short, rather than arresting only the illegal immigrants who commit crimes, we will be arresting all illegal immigrants. While we are arresting illegal immigrants, we will be harassing innocent people. More importantly, if they ever forget their wallet, they will be taken to jail until another family member can bring evidence of their citizenship. It's one thing to pick someone up from jail due to a petty crime, but it's something completely different when they are innocent.

Ben Franklin once said: " give an inch of freedom for an inch of protection; you'll lose both." meaning, when you accept a government violating citizens rights, they are only going to take away more...

That is almost entirely not true at all. Because I live in CA, I do encounter a large amount of Hispanic people. The parents don't learn English very well, but they do work hard to gain citizen ship and try very hard to provide for their children. Most native Hispanic people send their children to an English preschool and English public schools. Their children speak perfect English, while their parents can't very well. The gang part is absolute bull****. Kids of all ethnicities join gangs. Not all Mexicans join gangs much like not all whites join gangs.

CA is broke for another reason; basically a combination of deficit spending, recession, and the lack of employment.

It is entirely unfair to blame my problems on illegal immigrants. If I did that, I'm no better than Germans in the 1930s...

I heard about this yesterday. And I think it's horrible how all they dois the just look for someone who looks like they shouldn't be in the USA. You could be from Chicago and look mexican, or you could be from California and be visiting Arizona and be arrested for looking asian, and forgeting your drivers liscense ( don't you need that to show you are a US citizen?). it's horrible. They should be able to think of something else.
