AZ Immigration Law

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed a controversial bill Friday that makes it a crime for illegal immigrants to be in the state. The new law will require local police to seek proof of immigration status if there is reason to suspect individuals are illegal immigrants.

This means a situation in Arizona can go down like this:

Nice Mexican man born in Mexico, but is now a citizen. He is walking into a parking lot full of cars. He can't remember where he parked...
He looks around, checks a few aisles. In the mean time, a police officer is watching him.

This police officer, now, can approach this man simply by the color of his skin, demand to see proof of legally being in the country (visa, passport, social security card, etc).

Personally, this is a dark day in American history. They might as well slap a Star of David onto the Mexicans there.

"Those who would give up a little liberty to gain a little protection deserve neither" -Benjamin Franklin.

Should laws like this become widewpread in the United States then I will have to say that America has become what it has always feared to become.

Yeah, because we all know immigrants are the only people to grow into criminals. If they are legal citizens, you can trust them with your social security number, but beware the illegal immigrants, if you give them a stick they'll use it to beat the crap out of you or to break into your house.

This is no different than what the Chinese had to go through a full century ago. I don't support illegal immigration, but the type of profiling that is clearly implied in this is unacceptable.

t doesn't say anything about secondary crimes. This is a visual and behavioral game that the policemen now get to place.

They have amended it to talk about secondary crimes.
13-3883. Arrest by officer without warrant
41 A. A peace officer may, without a warrant, MAY arrest a person if he
42 THE OFFICER has probable cause to believe:
43 1. A felony has been committed and probable cause to believe the
44 person to be arrested has committed the felony.
2. A misdemeanor has been committed in his THE OFFICER'S presence and
2 probable cause to believe the person to be arrested has committed the
3 offense.
4 3. The person to be arrested has been involved in a traffic accident
5 and violated any criminal section of title 28, and that such violation
6 occurred prior to or immediately following such traffic accident.
7 4. A misdemeanor or a petty offense has been committed and probable
8 cause to believe the person to be arrested has committed the offense. A
9 person arrested under this paragraph is eligible for release under section
10 13-3903.
11 5. THE PERSON TO BE ARRESTED HAS COMMITTED ANY PUBLIC OFFENSE THAT
12 MAKES THE PERSON REMOVABLE FROM THE UNITED STATES.
13 B. A peace officer may stop and detain a person as is reasonably
14 necessary to investigate an actual or suspected violation of any traffic law
15 committed in the officer's presence and may serve a copy of the traffic
16 complaint for any alleged civil or criminal traffic violation. A peace
17 officer who serves a copy of the traffic complaint shall do so within a
18 reasonable time of the alleged criminal or civil traffic violation

Ok Asherlee so you think the discrimination IN THIS CASE ONLY is a bad thing?

The reason they probably wouldn't want ILLEGAL immigrants is because they have enough on their mind already, there's a lack of food and whatnot, the last thing they may want is more consumption. By discriminating in such a way it is not being racist, it is being cautious, and to be honest if anyone calls someone a racist for asking a question to a person because of the color of his skin a racist is a retard. Because it is a way to distinguish someone with no offence, not judge them, distinguish, easier to see from part of a group and THAT goes for anyone, do not think I am talking one black person out of many whites, it goes for a white in blacks, asian in blacks, black in asians and vice versa etc etc.

Quit being picky about this and to be honest you've lost perspective probably, think about it

This case doesn't work unless he is being suspected to be doing an illegal thing. Now if a person regardless or origin is believed to be doing an illegal activity &quotrobably caus" then the cop has every right to ask them for proof of citizenship. where does race play a role in that?

Tom, when I posted this and the law was first passed. It did not require a secondary crime. Which I am not sure it still does. The language posted above is very vague.

So, yes this law plays on race.

Texas has just recently proposed an entire boycott of Arizona. All things from and going to Arizona are being banned.
