It is my opinion that they should be able to do anything that straight people can do. The fact that we are restricting them from getting married reminds me to much of the restrictions we placed upon women and blacks which most people would agree were terrible. I would also like to point out that I am not gay, I just believe in the freedom of the people. Feel free to post the opposing side of this as always.
There is no reason not to let them, they are not harming anyone, and it probably has a positive effect on there lives. Thus, they should be able to marry.
Marriage offers many legal rights that a homosexual can't have because they aren't allowed to get married. So either we need to place marriage as strictly a religious ceremony (which it technically is) with the civil union being the government added part that grants all the legal benefits, or we need to allow homosexuals to be allowed to marry.
P.S. oddly enough I just noticed the banner ad at the top of the page (my gfs pc doesn't block ads very well) it says "is gay marriage wrong?...Gay Marriage Survey".
I think the government needs to stay out of our bedrooms. It shouldn't matter what happens in the privacy of our homes if there's consent from both parties.
I think it's totally absurd for government to say who can and can't marry. If same sex couples can adopt children then absolutely they should be able to marry. There are certain laws that "we the people" should be able to vote out of the governments control. This, is one of the top five.

Google and other ad programs use keywords in advertising. It gets to be fun, as atheist sites some times get Christian advertisements... Great way to make the atheist money! Every time you click an ad, the Christians lose money and the atheist gain money, great plan huh?

lol i think you want the Christian vs atheist thread :P
Absolutely I feel that same sex couples should be allowed to marry. If you look at just some of the legal and financial benefits which married couples enjoy here in the US (and which are not available without marriage) I find that it is absurd to say that same sex partnerships are any less entitled to these than heterosexual couples.
Also there are some interesting facts regarding marriage in the US.
Before the civil war, African-American slaves in some states were not allowed to marry. Before 1967, inter-racial couples were not allowed to marry in some U.S. states. Prior to the year 2000, the relationships of loving, committed gay and lesbian couples were not recognized by any of the U.S. states. They were treated like roommates; their children were considered illegitimate.
There is interesting information on the topic here and here
Not being a religious man, but still respecting the beliefs, am i not wrong in saying, it would be somewhat of a sin to get married in a christian church as a gay couple?
I myself know people who are gay, who have dated for several years now and are engaged, i'm not going to criticize them for that, nor wanting to tie the knot together.
When this becomes out of hand is when they are allowed to adopt a child, nothing wrong with them having a child, it's what the childs future will become, more so at school the child would be ridiculed for having 2 dads. Certainly as he grows up, and can be very confusing for children from young ages.
As for marriage, respect the beliefs of churches would be the biggest issue here. Or am i wrong in saying God does not look down upon two people of the same sex?
As i commented, I'm not religious, I'm an atheist, i just have respect in people, so if i got this post wrong, with gays sinning for getting married in a christian church, apologies.

This. Agreed 100%.

Not all Christians view homosexuality as a sin. As far as I know it isn't written crystal clearly in it that homosexuality is a sin, but many interpret it as though it is. Still, though, I wouldn't object too much to churches refusing to let gays marry in them. As long as there was another way of gaining the same legal rights, that would be fine (although sad for gay Christians).

Wouldn't it be better if it somehow ended up with not being such an issue because it happens regularly, instead of having laws cementing the issue, though...
Actually sexual orientation is not often an issue that is brought up during adoption proceedings. Recently the Supreme Court determined that it is fully within their rights for homosexual couples to adopt a child, however there are still a few states that are not yet complying with this ruling. Despite that, many homosexual couples who adopt simply have one member of the couple adopt as a 'single parent' in order to avoid the questioning that would occur if they both attempted to do so.
