This is not about whether or not he was the son of God but whether he actually existed. Most atheists agree that he did live but there are some who don't so what are you're thoughts?
I believe if Jesus really was real, that he was an influential leader who brought about great change in a time of turmoil, and was turned into a martyr for it. From there his followers expounded on the story and it turned into what you hear today.
My belief of Jesus was not being the "Messiah" or "The Chosen One," but a man of peace. Like a monk so to speak. I believe that he was real, but not like what we truly see him as. He might have been a real person, but not God's son. That is only my belief. Feel free to disagree

I think he was brought down to forgive humanity for all the sins they have done. Sort of like an offering. (Please forgive the use of the following word). Sort of like, well, a "scapegoat" where his sacrifice made sure humanity would be forgiven for their sins as we are all created by God.
I definitely think he existed. The Roman records and history document a man named Jesus.
Considering how common the name was that's a bit like saying there were records of John Smith.

Why would God require a human sacrifice just to say "your forgiven"?
Well instead of sending all these sinners to hell or destroying their town like God did early in Genesis he had Jesus "spread the word" of God and then he let himself to be put on the cross as if to say "Lord, forgive all these people and take me instead".

Why was that necessary? An benevolent being could easily just say "Whatever, I forgive you world and no one has to die anymore. Come on in to heaven people!"
In fact, if he is benevolent why did he get mad in the first place? He could have easily forgiven, or better yet not even given, the apple to Adam and Eve. Especially since he knew what was going to happen. And another thing, why didn't an all knowing being bring any knowledge with it? Just telling the world about bacteria would have saved billions of lives, instead of claiming demons caused illnesses... And then, why wait all those thousands of years, letting millions of innocents go to a torture chamber? If his son's death was necessary, why didn't he send him right after A&E ate the apple?
