Why do governments feel the need to make drugs illegal? If anything, it causes a lot more problems than there were before. If they were legalized, there would not be nearly as many violent actions over getting them since the prices would not be nearly as high. There would not been as many people over doing it with drugs, since it would eventually just become a normal thing in day-to-day life.
Well, not all drugs are illegal. Some drugs don't need a prescription, so what your saying is why are all drugs illegal. Which is not true. And we legalized all drugs, the world would be a hell hole. Simple as that.

Alcohol is not illegal because it of its cultural importance. Whether or not people get drunk immediately or not is irrelevant.

Its not illegal because we tried out lawing it and it didnt work. (just like how what we are doing now isnt working) Not because of how long it takes to get a high.
That's not a reason why alcohol is any different from drugs though. Illicit are still equally (and in most cases less) dangerous than alcohol.

The reason many people drink alcohol is to get drunk. Your point? We should make things illegal because of how people want to use certain goods? Many people buy guns to shoot other people, yet guns remain illegal in the US (different argument I know, but just an example).
