a, about this micheal portney or watever guy being the greatest drummer ever, ur kinda in the wrong there, u see, Travis Barker is the best drummer ever
so in this new decade well have to see if anyone is good enough to beat out mike. i mean thomas pridgen could do it,hes insane but idk if he will in the next 5 years
Thomas Haake (Meshuggah) is, in my opinion, the one who comes closer to being better than Portnoy. He's a beast on the drums, easily among the best i've ever seen.
i desperatly hope your being sarcastic, cause i should stab you in the throat for that statement lol.
and the talent level that dream theater is on thisisnotanalt is beyond any other band there ever was in the history of music and it may jsut sound like im being a typical dream theater fan but honestly its a very safe argument to call them the most musically talented band of all time like just check out these videos

No, no no, this is exactly the kind of fanboy s**t I'm talking about. Those guys are impressive, yes, very much so, but the best ever? No. You can't definitely rank that. And on what you said about Petrucci, you misunderstood me. He is one of the most technically skilled guitarists ever, but there is nothing that distinctly puts him above any of the other most technically skilled guitarists ever. Same with everybody else. They're all great, but there's nothing that is separating themselves from any of the other greatest ever. It gets to a point where a musician is capable of playing every piece of music laid out before him or her that could sound good, and a lot of people are there. You really can't argue for a best of all-time, because there's always a video of someone else doing something equally impressive.
Once someone reaches that point, all that could separate them is musical skill, and that's subjective. So, we reach an impasse.

if not best of all time mike is deffinatly the best in the last 20 years.
and honestly i cant name a single band in the last 50-65 years that has had more overall talent the dream theater, rush comes kinda close but not really. led zeppelin is also up there to but there time ended before it was supposed so its hard to say.
