i know atheist's who will admit that there has to be the tiny chance that there is a god, or diety somewhere, they just find it highly unlikely that there is, in which they are correct.

not discounting the very slight possibility and believing there is one are completely different scenarios.

why can't we all just, get along.

Lol, this is why religious arguments for/against things just need to be ignored, why does religion even have a say in anything like this? The world would still turn and work perfectly without religion.

actually it's not the beliefs more the disagreeing human components that are the trouble.

North Carolina's constitution is clear: politicians who deny the existence of God are barred from holding office.

I'm not saying that Cecil Bothwell is not a good man, but if he's an atheist, he's not eligible to serve in public office, according to the state constitution,

Article 6, section 8 of the state constitution says: âThe following persons shall be disqualified for office: First, any person who shall deny the being of Almighty God.â

Looks like belief to me.. I'm talking specifically about that article.

They must have exercised their right to declare Amendment 1 unconstitutional; otherwise, North Carolina is being very irresponsible as a State.

Considering that the majority of the world throughout the ages has been condemned to Hell by somebody or another - I'd happily spend my afterlife there - Alongside Einstein, most of the founding fathers, a lot of the ancient greeks and a fair few other cool people.

They can do that? I thought individual states couldn't touch the US constitution.

it's interesting how it's overlooked if no one invokes it but when some one does it becomes big news.

If states do not agree with amendments, they can exercise Annulment, in which they can have their own state laws even though they are against the amendment. States do not have to agree with the constitutional amendments; in order to not have America too Unitary, the Constitution gave the States the power to annul any amendments challenged.

So, while the rest of the evolving nation makes no law respecting religion or prohibiting it, North Carolina has laws respecting Christianity. clap. clap. clap.

Ignoring it isn't going to make it go away.

Because it wormed it's way into a place it doesn't belong in that state.

This isn't the only state. There are several states with similar laws.

Neither is spending time de-constructing their arguments and logic only to find yourself going in circles over and over again xP

I have never ever heard of this, and I'm quite dubious. I mean, Chicago had to remove it's decades-long hand gun ban recently because it violated the Second Amendment.
And it's not like a state could just revoke the citizenship of minorities, or refuse women the right to vote.
Now, there may be archaic laws on the books, but those are seen as non factors. If a state ever did try to act on one of these archaic laws that was unconstitutional, they would quickly have their heads shoved up their own butts.
At least, that's what I've always thought. Am I totally wrong here?

Sorry, I really this is completely off topic. But... wow.

Most of the time, its theists dragging atheists in circles with circular logic. If people were just able to set aside the petty beliefs they were indoctrinated with as infants and regard religion without bias, then maybe they would finally understand the reason behind atheism.
