I know this thread has probably been made a Brazilian times, but hear me out. This one asks a more specific question:
Is the life sentence without parole worse than the death sentence? I am not asking if you think it is legal, but if it is worse to rot in prison or to die without pain?
I've never been to prison. Neither have most if not all of the people on this thread, who are saying they would take death over prison. I would think the same thing as them..... but honestly, we can't be sure.
On the other side of the coin, prisons can be escaped from, prisons cost the taxpayers a lot of money. The idea of throwing someone in prison for life is that they never get back into society anyway. A nice, quick painless death is so much cheaper, and i you want them punished, leave that up to the Almighty. Unless you don't believe in Him. In which case, death sentence still saves the rest of society a lot of money.
I wouldn't call prisons comfortable. Being stuck in a little cell for most of your days is far from comfortable. However, people would get a choice between prison and death sentence, as suggested by above posts, may chose this because they think that death is worse.
The problem with our system is our prisons are WAY too comfortable. People get there, find it really nice, and since they have no life, they keep committing crimes so they can go back. Doesn't that sound like a great system? It REALLY raises crime rate!

Well, in prison you are confined but there still are many things to do. You can exercise, get degrees (Masters, Doctorates, PhDs), and be involved in clubs.
However, the people there aren't friendly.
Plus in prison they treat you like ****. No one cares about you at all, and they don't think you deserve anything. Prison is pretty scary.
True. Some people who are homeless actually get into prison on purpose. Three square meals a day, warm bed, regular exercise. However, the people interned there are very callous and hardened.
Depends what you do.
True.
But you can't do anything in prison. Like I said, all you do is eat and get yelled at if you ask for anything.
Read up on what you can do in prison. You can do a lot, but it gets very monotonous and humans cannot survive in monotony.
So you would agree that the death penalty seems to be softer than life sentence without parole? Than why have it?
Because as much as we value our freedom, we value our existence even more, you can believe that you'll go to heaven, hell, nirvana, hades, etc. But no one knows, that fear of simply being gone plays a very important role.
Also people fear death, if you make an example of the primary perpetrators, there won't be quite as many eager to follow in their footsteps.
- what if someone is innocent? if it turns out AFTER the penalty is given, well, you can pull someone out of prison, but raising from death is really rare. (two documented cases.)
-someone who is dead can't appoligize anymore.
-death penalty is really expensive.
-HELLO, we don't live in the middel ages anymore, do we??? we don't scourge anymore, we don't put someone in a pillory, so why do we still kill people to punish them?
-live sentence is less traumatic to: jailers, victim family, criminals family, jury, judge...
to me if they are sentenced to death kill and get thier misery over with, and also doesnt eat taxdollars to keep thier sorry butts in prison which some are better off than the average person's home
I love how everyone says they would rather die than spend life in prison.
You'd be the same people who would beg for your lives at your executions.
The simple truth of reality is this: No one wants to die. Ever. If people would rather just die, they wouldn't fight for their lives in court, would they? Very rarely does a prisoner ask for the death penalty. Most frequently, it isn't fighting to get acquitted, it's fighting not to die.
Also, the death penalty is only expensive in America because we make it so. Trials are insanely expensive, appeals more so. The death penalty is not by its nature expensive or inefficient.

That's why it is ironic that people prefer confinement over death, even though it is ten times worse.
