I know this thread has probably been made a Brazilian times, but hear me out. This one asks a more specific question:

Is the life sentence without parole worse than the death sentence? I am not asking if you think it is legal, but if it is worse to rot in prison or to die without pain?

hokzwijn, that's not true. look it up at wikipedia:

Estland en Nederland zijn de enige landen in Europa waar levenslang echt levenslang is.

for our american friends, this says so much as that Estland and the Netherlands are the only european countries where life imprisonent is really for life. you can get free a little earlier if you get gravely ill or if you behave good though.

But almost everyone said it was.
What "almost everyone" says has absolutely no baring on my claim. It is a personal opinion.

Would you say spending your life in the same place without the possibility of being released out early is better than dying? Either way you die, but in one you die without pain, and in the other you die with.
Fallacy of the false dichotomy. The choice between the death penalty and a life sentence is not as you paint it here.

Regardless, yes, I would. Please tell me you don't honestly think that an inability to understand why someone would prefer to live means your choice is the only legitimate one. Please just give me that little glimmer of hope.

Prison for life would be so amazingly boring for me, I wouldn't be able to stand it. I choose death.
Apparently somewhere there's the death penalty for attempted suicide.

i think if a crime is so bad,a murder for example.. the victims family should be able to choose what happens to the guilty person. life in jail or death penalty.

That wouldn't work, bigbadger, as the family of the victim would be horribly biased towards the convicted; they would let their emotions get to their heads. This is why we have an objective judge with a supporting jury, under the guidelines that they have no relation or acquainted visits with either party.

i do see your point with that but everyone different. i admit most would probably say death. A few might want them to rot in jail though. I know that families of victims can give a judge a letter before he passes sentence to help sway the judgement... thats in most countries i think.

Life imprisonment in Canada is actually only 25 years, so I may have to re-evaluate that.

they should rot in jail for their actions why not make them suffer for all the suffering that happened to the family they should be punished by rotting in prison but yes it would be far cheaper to put a sword in their room to kill them selves

Why not? Because that would be wrong. No one deserves to suffer.

Am with you on that point Darktroop07. America is mad because they get Death Penalty and sit on Death Row for 25 years just to make you suffer!

I do not belive in the death penatly. I think it is only Allah's job to take a life from this world. I think they should be givin life inprisonment.

But nobody has the right to kill anybody else so what do you do? And you have two sayings that are either side of the arguement. 'An eye for an eye' and 'Two wrongs don't make a right'

An eye for an eye and the whole world goes blind.

Show me how killing for revenge helps anyone.

It just helps keep the prison population down i guess? I think they should rot in jail and make them reflect why they are there.
