The 2011 Formula 1 season is now but 3 weeks away. Already there has been drama, with the cancelation of the Bahrain grand Prix. This season is shaping up to be great again though, with multiple teams in contention and plenty of great drivers, as well as the introduction of adjustable rear wings and the reintroduction of the KERS system. So, what do you think about the season. Until the season starts, this thread shall be for prediction and general pre-season discussion.
And as an extra, the current driver line-up for the season.
Red Bull: Sebastian Vettel, Mark Webber McLaren: Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button Ferrari: Fernando Alonso, Felipe Massa Mercedes GP: Michael Schumacher, Nico Rosburg Renault: Nick Heidfeld, Vitaly Petrov Williams: Rubens Barrichello, Pastor Maldonado Force India: Adrian Sutil, Paul di Resta Sauber: Kamui Kobayashi, Sergio Perez Toro Rosso: Sebastian Buemi, Jamie Alguersuari Lotus: Jarno Trulli, Heikki Kovalainen HRT: Narain Karthikeyan, TBA Virgin: Timo Glock, Jerome d'Ambrosio
OMG what an exciting race! Vettel won again but today he deserved it. Alonso had an amazing start but I can't wait to know what happened. I think he made an extra stop which killed is chances to be on the podium.
I read the article about Alonso and he said that the hard tires didn't work for him at all. That's annoying because he gave us a very exciting start of the race but Vettel pitted at the right moment to take 1st place then Ferrari switched to the hard compound and that was the end for them.
also alonso kept pitting with webber, that was the strategy. wasn't shaken off until webber's pit crew pulled a dummy stop and tricked the ferrari garage!
It still seems that McLaren are the main team to challenge Red Bull.
What was great to see this race, Schumacher improved from the last race, finishing in front of his team mate, and Nick Heidfeld had a Phenomenal race, not only finishing in 8th from starting last, but beating Petrov as well, just show's how good a driver is for renault.
I'm watching the Practice 2 right now and one of the commentator mentioned something about the rubber pebbles left on the track as the tires degrade. On the other circuits, it lays on the side of the road but in Monaco it bounces off the wall and comes back on the track so i think this race might turned into a smash up derby. :O
If the Qualifs are as exciting as the Practice sessions we're in for a treat. Yesterday Felipe Massa had at least three close calls but he saved it at the last second. Man it was fun to watch!
It is becoming boring to see Vettel doing almost all the poles positions this year. I want to see Button passing brilliantly by Vettel tomorrow then that would be interesting. I also feel sorry by Perez, he had a big crash today. Can't wait for tomorrow.
Another exciting race but Vettel won again. The wreck toward the end spoiled the end of the race because Vettel got new tires and from then I was sure they would end in the same order Vettel, Alonso, and Button. I which Alonso could have kept pushing Vettel with his old tires and maybe pass him on the last lap but it wasn't to be. Next, Montreal, an other favorite.
I think the end of the race was unfair. After that huge crash (that Hamilton was in it again hehe) they couldn't have changed the tires. Alonso would have passed by Vettel certainly and Button could have made something in this fight too. I am not a fan of these guys but I think it was unfair. By the way, I got surprised with the big number of mistakes in the pit stops. Even RBR messed up with their cars. I found this strange.
Yes I noticed that too. Ferrari, MacLaren, and Redbull made mistakes on their pit stops. Like the commentator said, they were making last second strategy and the poor crews were probably stressed out big time.
