It's funny how your almost never born atheist, you become atheist. I personally think the whole religion thing is far fetched. Why cant we just be dead after we die? Why does there HAVE to be an afterlife? Dont get me wrong i respect others decisions, I just don't believe in it, who's with me? I'm going to be some grass fertilizer one day And home to some maggots + worms.
While I agree some atheists (ahem) are a bit extreme on the hating religion part, there are quite a few positive attributes. We aren't completely zealous about God and how God will save us no matter how horrible we are. We believe wholeheartedly in science and that doesn't contradict any of our other views. There's more but I'm too lazy to type such a long post.
While I agree some atheists (ahem) are a bit extreme on the hating religion part,
Depends on how you define hating.
I want Religion to burn in a raging pit of fire, AKA the thing it makes people believe in, and be slandered in it for all eternity. Then, I want every stubborn-to-the-core leader of any religion nailed to a cross (or another form of killing for different religions) and laid to rest in any holy city of their choice. Then, I would like the insane majority who have an open mind to rejoice over the ridding of this topic that has held us back to no end.
Exaggerated for any humor it could get from you guys. I just want Religion to die, imo.
Think about it this way - if we didn't have Religion - how many years ahead would we be technologically?
Religion has been such a hindering factor that it is nigh-impossible to calculate it. But hey - at least 800 years, given the Dark Ages.
I agree with you mostly, highfire, but your religion hating is not helping. In fact, I think religious people hate us more now. And also, I don't think religion should completely disappear. That would make some people sad.
Okay here's a question for theists. Can any of you think of positive attributes to atheism?
I'd like to know this too.
Also, i've always wondered this, why is Rock and roll considered, "the devil's music" by at least Christians? I never understood that, aside from maybe how the Rockers dress.
Religion is not always obstructive to science. The islamic golden age is the best proof for that, and the invasion of the saracen especially in Spain brought many advancements also to Europe. The real plague is religious fervour, intolerance and extremism. A lot of the moderate religious people actually don't have a problem with science.
I don't know, the whole atheism thing seemed kind of hopeless to me. If there's no God, then what happens when you die? If nothing happens, then what's the point of life if it just ends and there's nothing more? If something does happen, then who made it happen?
Well what happens when you die is you either get burned and put in a vase or your buried in the ground. You actually believe that when you die, you float to the sky and live in the clouds? Thats pretty funny, because when I'm on an airplane, i dont see anyone hanging around on the clouds. And what do u mean "what's the point of life if it just ends"? So you are saying that we are living to die and go to god? If that is your opinion, then ok but i definitely do not agree with that. Theres more to life than just praying to a god.
I like your answer, E1337. That's one of my least favorite parts about religion. How so many people have died defending a god that may or may not exist.
I'm too lazy to quote whoever said that some of us atheists are a bit extreme in the anti-religion department, but I'm not opposed to religion, and I don't thin people who follow a religion are dumb. I just don't follow a religion and I think science is more reliable.
