It's funny how your almost never born atheist, you become atheist. I personally think the whole religion thing is far fetched. Why cant we just be dead after we die? Why does there HAVE to be an afterlife? Dont get me wrong i respect others decisions, I just don't believe in it, who's with me? I'm going to be some grass fertilizer one day And home to some maggots + worms.

Dont you need facts to make it plausible? Just throwing random ideas out their usually is not very plausible.

You need more than just facts to explain things; you also need to formulate questions and hypothesis' and confront them with facts in order to explain things.

Good news buddy that's reality. But there is hell because people don't want the party because to join the party they must recognize their sin (i.e.their offenses against God). But some people are to stuck up to say that.

How do you know this? How could we commit an offense against God? That sounds like a microbe committing an offense against me. And what of those who never heard of God or sin? There is no possible way for them to admit to something they can't recognize. Finally why would an all loving being make the alternative an eternal torture?

And another thing, when the religion first started, was it not started by people not all that educated? I re call them burning women on sticks for silly things such as being a "witch".

That for some reason is regarded as a good quality it seems.

But look at the Holocaust the Natizes kill millions of innocent people,in the name of atheism, just because they were "inferior".

Hitler regularly invoked God in his speeches. Hardly something he would have had to do if all is actions were done in the name of atheism.

I do at times (and that is not a sin) and all I see is a pointless life that gives me nothing greater to live for than myself.

And what about living for other people, or animals, or to help improve the environment. Sure doesn't sound like you went out of that box at all.

People aren't perfect. Considering that most priests have molested little boys, this could be taken as fact. God could have saved those little boys, but he didn't. Why? Maybe just to make a point that our current religious system is corrupt and destroying our religion as we know it...

Then why are you a part of it?

And most of it was due to the fact that Jews were successful in business at the time AND Hitler was denied from an art institution. What else was he going to do besides blame those who were successful?

The Jews were already regarded as lower class citizens and scapegoated by the time Hitler came to power, that's what made them such easy targets politically. A good comparison would be like the Mexicans in America.

God assisted them here and there but DID NOT do everything. This is true for modern times as well. If I want to do good on a test, I ask God if he can help. Just because I ask for help DOESN'T mean that God will do the test for me.

Really God will have everyones first born killed if it helps me out?

I believe in God because God is just and true.

God according to the Bible openly says he lies and has a death count of millions, many of which were innocents. Hardly just or true. I don't see how something behaving in a just and true manner warrens belief in their existence. I mean if that really is all it takes why do you not believe in the existence of comic book Superheroes?

Also, science is full of theories about how the universe started, so there is a lot of ambiguity in there as well. Not to say that all science is a lie, just a lot of it doesn't add up to good.

You may want to learn about it a bit more because you clearly don't understand how it works at all.

I really don't like people who claim to be Christian and then do a bunch of terrible stuff. They actually end up doing worse stuff because they think that they can get away with it just because they've "become Christian", ignoring the fact that you have to ACT like a Christian, according to the Bible, not according to one's own set of ethics.

Well doesn't the Bible say all you have to do is say sorry and believe in God and all those bad deeds get wiped away?

Yup. When I read that, I wrote a comment in all caps full of swears and censored terms. But luckily I managed to resist that rage that some stuff Is likely to cause.
(btw, I had to edit this post a little too to make it appropriate for AG.)

Where did you get those news from? Fox news?

Party without sins? Lame

Come on there only human. But look at the Holocaust the Natizes kill millions of innocent people,in the name of atheism, just because they were "inferior".

You probably mean communists, not nazis. Nazis where with god. And even communists didn't kill "in the name of atheism".

and all I see is a pointless life that gives me nothing greater to live for than myself. And a life only centered on me and my desires would be pretty awful because there would be no satisfaction just more desire for more for myself regardless of what others need.

Wrong. That's the main excuse for religious people. But it's false. Just look at non-religious people. Most of them love their life.

sounds like hell (if real) would be a very lonely "dry" place for you... but that would be just from normal interpretation. there may not be either heaven or hell... or there may just be heaven... or hell might just be eternal separation from God so you might just get your party. even if there's a God there may not be an after life. for all practical purposes, I don't see how we can truly test any of these concepts...

there may not be either heaven or hell...

This would require a non all loving God, though the way scripture makes him out could be likely. But this would only really leave worshiping out of fear and/or ignorance. This would also make at least some of the scripture nothing more then propaganda.

or there may just be heaven...

Which puts reliability on scripture into question. Which in turn put's the whole dichotomy presented into question.

or hell might just be eternal separation from God so you might just get your party.

Requiring that God has limits and is not omnipresent.

even if there's a God there may not be an after life.

Running us into issues stated in the first to possibilities, of the reliability of scripture and the possibility of it being propaganda.

So really no matter how you look at it the idea runs into issues Biblically, thus putting the Bible into question. Given the Bible is our only source where the concept of this particular God comes from it in turn puts this into question as well.

for all practical purposes, I don't see how we can truly test any of these concepts...

Methods as I suggest of transferring ones mind by physically copying it would not work if humans have a dual existence such as a soul. Events such as physical damage to the brain causing massive changes in who a person is also puts into question the dualistic nature of the soul/body relationship. So methods could possibility be developed to test for these things.

is it lack of omnipresence or is it similar to Dante's inferno? In that depiction satan perpetually freezes b/c of the lack of feeling God's presence? I'm not saying that it would cause freezing per se , but if there is some benefit in the afterlife of being in God's grace... could he limit the effect/grace/love that those deemed unworthy could feel / hold witness to?

as for why a finite existence would ever be able to condemn you for eternity... i dunno... some say that one day they'll be "saved"/"liberated" by Jesus or some entity... where they get that from I'm not sure.

as for the soul.... the strife in that one is proving there is such a thing :/... if you can copy a mind and there is such a thing as a soul... if the new mind is sentient then did you copy/halve/distribute evenly the soul that was attached?

if there is a God and there is judgement then does someone who gets altered beyond their control so to speak get judged for something they couldn't control? does altering the brain and said person's persona prove there's no such thing as a soul? does contesting the traditional view of a soul actually debunk the whole concept entirely?

One burns in hell.

one view has satan freezing and Odysseus burning for being a liar... ((the whole trojan horse thing being his idea) and supposedly a whole city burned b/c of his sneaky lying deceitful ways... >_&gt

Either way we run into problems when compared to our source material.

I'm not saying that it would cause freezing per se , but if there is some benefit in the afterlife of being in God's grace... could he limit the effect/grace/love that those deemed unworthy could feel / hold witness to?

Making it seem as if he isn't there (absent from God) while he actually is? If such a being does exist then that's just how it is for atheists. It's not that bad.

as for why a finite existence would ever be able to condemn you for eternity... i dunno... some say that one day they'll be "saved"/"liberated" by Jesus or some entity... where they get that from I'm not sure.

Can't remember if something about it made it into the Bible but I do remember mention of something like this from one of the books left out of the Bible.

as for the soul.... the strife in that one is proving there is such a thing :/... if you can copy a mind and there is such a thing as a soul... if the new mind is sentient then did you copy/halve/distribute evenly the soul that was attached?

Though this also runs into problems of accountability. What if your "other half" were to commit a sin? does this then condemn the half that does not as well?

if there is a God and there is judgement then does someone who gets altered beyond their control so to speak get judged for something they couldn't control? does altering the brain and said person's persona prove there's no such thing as a soul? does contesting the traditional view of a soul actually debunk the whole concept entirely?

As with above why would physical alterations have an effect on the supposed non physical soul? If physical effects on the body can cause adverse effects on the soul such as splitting it in two or altering the very nature of that being, then what effect would physical death have?

one view has satan freezing and Odysseus burning for being a liar...

That was based on an admitted work of fiction. Though it did play a part in forming many peoples concept of hell.

:/.... i'm at home w/ terribad and severely limited internets... videos are not happening for the next week. I'll have to get back to you.

I referenced a work of fiction b/c I figured that a long dead poet's abstract view is just as viable and/or discussion worthy as someone else's non published view today. I'm not sure we've made any definitive headway into the way things actually are... at least not enough to axe out opinions just b/c they're old
