Over my short time here at AG I've noticed that almost all threads dealing with religion end the same way: Does God exist? I've decided to create a thread dealing strictly with that debate. In saying/supporting either side be specific, and you may be as broad as including every religion to as specific as reading a sentence out of the bible. Atheism areas to consider: -Big Bang theory -Evolution -Dinosaurs -Aliens(?) Religion areas to consider -Anything that makes people believe in something religious.
OK how about a theist tries to prove their God now and everyone points out that they don't have an argument and that their faith has no proof what-so-ever.
Then they come back with saying how they don't need evidence and that nothing will convince them that they were wrong and accuse the atheists of being closed minded.

I think that anyone who accuses Atheists to be close-minded is actually even more close-minded, and I also think that if someone says he/she doesn't need evidences to believe, he/she shouldn't had tried to demonstrate god's existence in the first place. Talking about one's idea of god is one thing, persuading other to believe in it it's a far different thing.
i believe in god and i am jewish. then again i do understand that the think i believe in is nothing more then a theory to what happened in the past. i fully believe in that and that is why i respect any other religion and find it interesting to learn new things about it. no one can really say what happened and no one can prove or disprove any one of the religions/theories that we know of. the only thing that will finish that argue is one of the following: 1. god will come to us all, tell us what happened and then all of us will believe in the same thing. 2. we will build a time machine and discover what happened by ourselves.
i really think neither will ever happen and truly... i dont really care XD. i think people should stop convincing others why they are right/wrong and start respecting others beliefs. who knows they might learn something new from that. i also agree with erpicci about the close minded thing.
you see i believe in this:
people need strength to believe in something, espacially if there isnt any proof. its easy to doubt everything and not beliving in anything BUT, people also need strength to keep doubting about the truth they know because its also easy to believe in what you know. i think people should find the balance between belief and doubt

Why respect peoples belief since it affects other people and it is completely unfounded in fact and has no logic or proof. We won't learn anything apart from maybe a little more about how incredibly stupid and superstitious early people were.

And believing even though there is no fact requires stupidity and not strength. I think blind faith is stupid, because, you have eyes, use them.
As did I. I already know quite much about it. I think religion is seen around media more than atheistic beliefs are. I'm not including general science as atheistic.
Something that opposes believing in a religion, or, in this case, you see a commercial promoting stem-cell research. Something that wouldn't be said by a religious person.

Atheism only means believing there are no gods. That's it. Any other opinion or belief a person has is not related to them being Atheistic. As I said before, Buddhists are atheistic, that doesn't mean all Atheists believe in Nirvana. An atheist can be against everything a Christian can be against and still be considered an Atheist.
One can be religious and still be atheist, for example Buddhism is often atheistic.
Buddhism is more of a philosophy rather than a faith or religion. If you are a Buddhist, you follow the Buddha's principles but you don't have a god so you are technically an atheist.
On a side note, iMogwai in his first post summed up just about every thread about religion on AG. Is there any significant difference between each debate? the Atheism FTW and Christianity FTW threads are no more or less identical because they are the 2 sides of the same argument.
