Over my short time here at AG I've noticed that almost all threads dealing with religion end the same way: Does God exist? I've decided to create a thread dealing strictly with that debate. In saying/supporting either side be specific, and you may be as broad as including every religion to as specific as reading a sentence out of the bible.
Atheism areas to consider:
-Big Bang theory
-Evolution
-Dinosaurs
-Aliens(?)
Religion areas to consider
-Anything that makes people believe in something religious.

Well, more like types of atheists.
Scientific ones share the belief that for scientific reasons, god is either does not exist or would be superflous.

The philosphical atheists hold that god either does not exist or is not a god to be followed.

I could get behind both of these.

How about we talk about something better instead? Let the religious people keep their beliefs, no matter how illogical they may seem. It's not like they're going to change their beliefs when they have been raised that way for their entire life.

It's the sheer ignorance/stupidity, denial of reality and attempt to spread this that keeps me coming back.

Before I accidentally deleted my last post I did say the reason I came back is because I despise the people that spread religion here - especially if they put it as if it's "the truth".

Attempting to spread religion makes me angry too. The people who do that are completely ignorant in that sense, but (unless they were converted or have converted themselves) it's not really their fault.

If somebody is raised as a devout Catholic, then it is most likely that the person will be a devout Catholic (unless, of course, they realize that they were taught incorrectly).

Indeed, indoctrination of religion into children is possibly the problem for all of it. :/

There's not much else there is to say on this thread until some fresh blood come in

the reason i dont really have a confident belief in religion is that the stories in the bible and how god and jesus etc came to be sounds like a fairy tale and that everything about how it was created seams like uneducated people from the past wanting to understand how the world works so they just explain it in a simplistic, a man in the sky did it. can anyone tell me proof of religious existence?

No they can't, I just saved you 150 more pages of debate like in Christianity FTW.

But yes, that is what Greek, Norse and Egyptian Mythology was used for, I'd imagine Religion is a slightly more modern version.

It's a cross between Mythology and Aesop's Fables.

If you really want some contradictions and fallacies, read a book from the Evangelical Press. Then you'll know whether or not Christianity is true.

Care to elaborate? Plus one source is barely anything that backs anything up.

Well I can link you to some. I don't know what qualifies as "Important", but I will assume that if an omnipotent being decides to give humans a little information in one book, it is all supposed to be important and any contradictions at all pretty much mean it isn't divinely inspired.

And here is a video on it by Nonstampcollectior, it is kinda long but is more entertaining.

And here is the second link I forgot. It isn't that long actually, but do to the fact it is longer than you will probably watch, I will consider it long.

The Bible is supposed to be error free because it was written wit God as the editor. Even though I do believe in God I have my doubts at times.

Why would God say
a) The Earth is flat
b) Slavery genocide etc is good
c) pi=3
d) Unicorns exist
etc

There are too many to list. Why would a truly moral and all knowing god say these things. I mean all he'd have to say to the bible writers is that "hey you, that bit's wrong" since they must've seen him to write about him a little advice couldn't do any harm. Unless of course he doesn't exist.

Yes, because god totally said all of those things... (Sarcasm)
These are just people's misinterpretations of the world, I'd like you to say a place where God says these things in the Bible. And, no, it can't say that a person said that because God respects our thoughts so he wouldn't change what someone said.

Slavery in the Bible

Pi in the Bible:

And he [Hiram of Tyre] made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about.
(I Kings 7:23)

Unicorns in the Bible:
"God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn."â"Numbers 23:22
"God brought him forth out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn."â"Numbers 24:8
"His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth."â"Deuteronomy 33:17
"Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib? Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee? Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him? Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?"â"Job 39:9â"12
"Save me from the lion's mouth; for thou hast heard me from the horns of unicorns."â"Psalms 22:21
"He maketh them [the cedars of Lebanon] also to skip like a calf; Lebanon and Sirion like a young unicorn."â"Psalms 29:6
"But my horn shalt thou exalt like the horn of the unicorn: I shall be anointed with fresh oil."â"Psalms 92:10
"And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with their bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness."â"Isaiah 34:7
