Over my short time here at AG I've noticed that almost all threads dealing with religion end the same way: Does God exist? I've decided to create a thread dealing strictly with that debate. In saying/supporting either side be specific, and you may be as broad as including every religion to as specific as reading a sentence out of the bible. Atheism areas to consider: -Big Bang theory -Evolution -Dinosaurs -Aliens(?) Religion areas to consider -Anything that makes people believe in something religious.
God didn't write the Bible. God edited it from the people to make sure it was truthful. Although it may seem not, it's almost all metaphorical for something of a greater meaning.
The inspired word of God and God didn't play a roll in putting it together? Even in a historical context it falls willfully short. There is no clear line between metaphor and what's suppose to be factual. Even the wording is poor. If God was this books editor on facts, he needs to be fired.
We don't. And I proudly admit it. I'd rather be wrong then go to Hell.
Then your book loses all basis.
Are you calling me an idiot!?
I specifically kept tha anonymous. And I was mainly thinking about that guy in the islam ask me thread.
Actually, because God respects our thoughts he won't help us the universe's greatest mysteries and he never will. The only thing he influenced us with was editing the Bible. Other than that people wrote it. We discussed this earlier.
Why? what would be wrong with ti. And God knew there would be a time where the logical fallacies would turn people off the right path so why would he want this.
God's teaches are... Different. He doesn't necessarily come out and say "This is what is is," he just does things to give us clues to alter our thoughts. He doesn't really go out and change them.
If you discredit the bible so much what is your religion based on. Hiow do you know what to do.
I mix atheism and religion. I do not think that God has everything to do with how we live our lives (like how I hit a serve into the net in my tennis match), but the chances of life being created on our planet were so slim, that either God or some aliens did it.
How is it slim? It has billions of years to happen, logically it must have happened at some point. All it required was some lightning in some amino acids or something. And what you're talking about is deism. The belief that God made the universe but left us to get on with our lives and doesn't interfere.
God didn't write the Bible. God edited it from the people to make sure it was truthful. Although it may seem not, it's almost all metaphorical for something of a greater meaning.
What was things like genocide, flat earth, unicorns, slave, ****, noahs ark etc supposed to mean metaphorically. And again if God is a metaphor then you lose all credibility. And there is no evidence for him not to be.
Biology; Bats are birds, demons not microscopic organisms are the result of most illnesses, insects have four legs
God edited it, however, he didn't put anything new into it.
Wouldn't his own words be adding to it?
God took the factual stuff and made it into metaphors.
Nice way to confuse the hell out of your story.
I don't see how.
How about Jesus's birth he was suppose to be real right?
Luke 2:2-3 ([And] this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. Matthew 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Herod died in 4BC The only census taken during Cyrenius's time was a local one around 6AD. So this would mean Jesus was born in both around 4BC and 6AD. This census that Had Mary and her husband going back home is questionable as no such census as described in the Bible took place. If it was the local census then the details are wrong. People wouldn't be getting sent back to their home towns for it.
There are plenty more examples as well.
Yes there is. It's hard to explain and I'm too lazy to explain it.
Did Adam and Eve really exist? How about Noah and his flood? Now you might call those metaphors, but there are plenty who would disagree. If it was clear we wouldn't have such disagreement.
By the sound of it, it almost seems your trying to justify this for yourself and grasping at straws doing it.
Can you give a verse reference please. I don't think I have heard of thwse before. It probably is what the bible would say though
Let's also include how rabbit chew cud according to the Bible. (NIV) Leviticus 11:6 The rabbit, though it chews the cud, does not have a split hoof; it is unclean for you.
Bats are birds
Leviticus 11:13 "'These are the birds you are to detest and not eat because they are detestable: the eagle, the vulture, the black vulture,
And it gives a nice list of birds including... Leviticus 11:19 the stork, any kind of heron, the hoopoe and the bat.
demons not microscopic organisms are the result of most illnesses
Matthew 4:24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed, and he healed them.
There are many instances where demons inside you are the result of illness as well. Never does it mention small creatures living inside you as the result of illness.
insects have four legs
Leviticus 11:20 "'All flying insects that walk on all fours are to be detestable to you.
They could've, but they probably weren't the only people on earth. Adam and Eve supposedly only had two kids, Cain and Able. If that was it, then reproduction would be almost impossible due to incest related problems with DNA.
How about Noah and his flood?
This is (somewhat) possible. First off, Noah supposedly only took his family of 4 with him along with every species of animal we have today. Either that boat was the size of the Titanic or it never happened, and, again, it would be hard for them to rekindle mankind due to more incest. I'm sure it's either greatly exaggerated to teach a lesson, or it's a metaphor. Boy the Bible is dirty.
God: I could explain physics using actual facts, but instead I'm going to use metaphor that get's lots of things wrong. There are many people who won't realize this is just a metaphor and it will over all hurt the development of knowledge. Also they will have to find the knowledge of physics on there own before they can relate what I said to those physics.
First off, Noah supposedly only took his family of 4 with him along with every species of animal we have today.
Family of 7 his 1.wife 2-4.three kids 5-7.kids wives.
