It hasn't devolved - you're just close-minded. The idea of "devolution" in music is silly because you're always building on what's already there.
I'm sorry, I was using "devolve" in a different sense. What I meant was that music is sounding worse.
That which is mainstream tends to be bad,...
Somewhat ironic, isn't it? The most popular music sounds like crap. =/
Although i'd have to say, music has changed for the worse (The way I measure it) because all it is now is lots of random noises (Techno) is full of cursing (Rap) or is insanely loud (Metal) or is annoying with all it's love your neighbor stuff (Christian music)
Aside from metal, I couldn't agree with you more. Metal is simply too diverse to judge as a whole. There are way too many variations in style. There is very crappy and very good metal.
ya but there are artists out there that keep the glimmer of hope. Nas, kanye west, eminem, and jay-z are all really paving the way. which i like.
Darest I say it? I darest. LOL. Sorry, please don't pick this out, but I have to say Slipknot is probably the greatest current pioneer in rap.

So basically, you were just being wrong in a different way?

Your close-mindedness is utterly painful. It really, really is.

you choose to keep yourself out of the genre because you're content with musical close-mindedness. Don't make judgments on genres you don't understand the points of.

No. By music, I mean music in general. Rap, hip-hop, country, pop... These are pulling the word "music" into a landfill. Metal and hard rock are pretty much the only talented styles.

Oh yes, because rap has so many variations.

You and delossantosj suggested many of the greatest rap songs to me. I listened to every single one. None of them sounded any good. In fact, some of them sounded worse than I feared. I tried to find something in them. I really did. I was just led further to the truth that my fears are undeniably confirmed.
your an idiot dude nuff said
If an idiot is someone who listens to metal, and not rap (riddled with obscenities and syllables ripped off without rythym), hip-hop (rap with [i]basic/i] rythym, I suppose), country (people wailing about their cheating wife, broken pickup truck, or dog that bit him), or pop (for your safety, I won't even begin), then an idiot be I.

saying people like kanye west, jay-z, dr dre, and nas makes you stupid. just saying.

your reading comprehension was so little you couldnt even deduce any of the meanings from them.

They're the only ones you like. Doesn't mean they're the only ones requiring talent. Stop trying to project subjectivity into objectivity.
Oh yes, because rap has so many variations.
It does. But you don't like rap, so you don't care to look. You shouldn't project your lack of knowledge/affinity into factual assertions - rap, pop, country, and hip-hop aren't talentless because you dislike them, and rap does not have no variety because you don't know of the variety.

You didn't like them. That much is okay. But it's outright stupid to turn that into the factual assertion that metal and hard rock are the only genres that require talent. It takes enormous talent to produce music of any genre - you may dislike it. But that doesn't mean it's talentless. Your view is not the only one, nor is it the correct one. Get that through your **** head.
It takes talent and skill to create all forms of music.....
I just can't stand the majority of the products that come out of other genres... I mean you have to have some serious skill to make music that is as bad as some of the crap out there... just saying. Just b/c you don't like something doesn't mean that the artist/band isn't talented or skilled... you liking them doesn't mean that they have skill either... there are plenty other criterion that hold more ground than your opinion.

Although true i think a certain genre takes more talent than others for rap you dont really need a good voice you just need to know how to spit out the right words and the right rhymes with the right beat you dont really have to create anything besides lyrics but, pop not only do you write lyrics you have to come up with chords and riffs, and also performance

Orchestrating a good backing track as a rapper is just as difficult, if not much much moreso, than throwing a few chords together. Rap lyrics are much more demanding to write than those of other styles because flow and feminine rhyme and slant rhyme must be considered on a much higher level. Rapping well is just as difficult as singing well - you're just manipulating the flow of the words more than the notes of the words. Don't underestimate how easy some form of music is because it sounds easier.
Hmmh. Rap's mostly just speaking and swearing very fastly, in my opinion. + A fast beat on the background, with no specific melody in it or such.
I don't like of it, but I'm not against it, eather, since sometimes there might be SOME good song, which has some rap in it.
And the beat's nice, too, atleast sometimes, but I rather prefer my own favourite genres.
Rap isn't really part of my favourites, so... A bit hard to say, whenever is it good or bad. It's average, depending on the Rap-type.
Pop(ular music) is... Depending on the song, again. Maybe an average "genre".
Every genre has their bad songs/parts, but pop's ok and sometimes there are some good songs, but sometimes there are just some songs that are annoying and get stuck on your/my head. It really depends on the person and their taste of music. Same thing with rap, ecpect, that, like I said before, I'm not into rap.
The World of music's evolving. Who knows what comes next.

You can't put "in my opinion" on any wrong statement to make it immune to being wrong. :P A lot of the really popular rap is like that, definitely - but characterizing the entire genre like that is silly.
Definitely worse. One of my favorite songs Tool - Sober was ruined by Pink's Sober. I types "Tool Sober" in at Youtube and about a million Pink videos came up. Probably a glitch, but I was mad either way.
When it comes to something like rap, I can't really say weather or not it has changed for the better or worse, as I never really listen to this genre of music much, but, what I can say is that I do know and appreciate how much work and time it takes to come up with some of the lyrics that are used by rappers and MC's everywhere. I mean, I have a huge appreciation for fast paced bar spitting & normal singing as long as the words have meaning, there is no problem. What I can't stand though is the people that decide they dislike something then end up just presuming that because they don't like a certain style of music, it is automatically absolutely terrible. I think; if you like something then listen to it, if you don't like it then don't listen to it, don't try to abuse people's tastes or the entire genre just because it isn't to your liking. /rant off.
