I don't think the number of religions matter. I mean, exclude the Eastern part of the globe, and you're left with what, 3 religions + Judaism?
If we just cut out half the world? Even with such a huge chuck taking out I can still think of about a dozen religions that would still be around.
Religon is too big to not be sperated. It would be like having the U.S be one big state eventually it would just collaspe and brake into different groups. The universe favors disorder.
It has to do with how it's based on such subjective views. You take four scientists with different views and put them in a room to work something out you will eventually get one view. Do this with four different religions and you will still have four different view points.
1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
So pretty much, there's 3 requirments. It has a stance on the creation of the universe, it has rituals that have to be followed, and it has a moral doctrine. Buddhism fits this.
what? religion has been around as long as we can think, humans have a need to explain what they don't understand, now that we don't need religion to explain anything there is no use for it
Well we couldn't always think.

But religious people say they are right and others are wrong. There should only be one right religion. Or they are all wrong and there should be none. There is no reason for fake religions to exist if there is a right one.
BTW, it is impossible to only have one religion in this world...
But if god existed he would have divinely inspired the true religion everywhere.

Whats so wrong about people thinking their right and others are wrong? Its like a soccer team fan thinking his team is the best and that others suck while another team's fan thinks His team is the best and the rest suck. It can keep them from being best friends and all, but there both happy and each one thinks his team is the best, whats wrong about that?
It doesn't even have to go that far. I have muslim friends and we can have discussions about our religon. We're just careful we don't just insalt each other.
how can a religion discussion ever not turn into insults? you believe im going to be tortured and burned horribly for all eternity, whats more, you think thats right, its why i am wary to post in religion threads and why i will not be frineds with christians
Well, not all christians think that way. I can speak for myself and say I don't. As for religous disscusions we basicly try to get to know each other better.
Plus buddhism isn't a religion. It's like Confucianism. It's just a philosophy; a way of life.
It's both actually.

You don't get to pick and choose reality like a preferred team or flavor of ice cream. Following false beliefs of reality can lead to wasted and even potentially harmful actions.

It's usually best to base your judgment of people on an individual basis.
how can you ever have a conversation or a friendship with an atheist? you believ that were all going to burn inhell for all eternity and better yet you think thats a good thing
sproos, I already stated I don't belive that's how life ends. Besides I've plenty of science disscusions with Mage.

I guess it depends what you think of as wasted time. To feel like going to be safe and sound when I die isn't wasted to me. That feeling is very important in life. But there are some people who are perfectly fine with thinking that after death life won't continue, all your memorys and experiences will be gone. It's just too scary for me.
