Do you believe the US government is doing enough to defend the border to Mexico? Support your reasoning. What should be done? What shouldn't be done?

I think that it is a big issue, and that it should take as much time as is needed to be solved. That being said, we don't need to dump billions into securing our borders from drug cartels and immigrants. What needs to happen is for us to make a comprehensive and viable plan to make those that want to come to the US be able to come here easily and inexpensively. We just **** around and solve nothing by putting up a fence and telling the immigrants to get out. We should be making them taxpaying citizens.

And the deal with the drug cartels is simply, MAKE DRUGS LEGAL. It is the simplest, most cost effective, beneficial way to stop the drug wars.

We need to have an absolutely impenetrable border except at designated cross points.

Log everyone who enters, and leaves, when and why, and so forth. US citizens not exempt.

Why? It's not immigrants, or even cartels. What would happen if a cell of foreign terrorists (of any nature, religious, political, or otherwise) walked across the barren deserts of Arizona with a nuclear device?

We dead, that's what.

I think that the US border with Mexico has to be completely secured so that legal citizens/immigrants could have the opportunities they want from our country. Illegal immigrants sap valuable dollars from government aid, and because they are undocumented, they pay zero taxes. Also, they work for lower wages because of the fact that they can't complain that they are being short-changed since they are illegal, so they take up many of the jobs that people in the country legally could have.

Then we can tax the hell out of it and use that money to fund education and programs to teach kids what drugs can do to a person.

I'm going to take a guess that your kidding.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, that is nearly impossible. What we can do is have security cameras &quotatrol" an invisible fence and then alert border agents when illegals are attempting to cross the border. Also, in areas where there is a large amount of crossing, simply fence the place and put iron plates into the ground so that they can't dig under the fence.

Why don't we just move the Army down there? Instead of wasting their time elsewhere they can stop the incoming illegsls

thats actually a good idea, there are so many military personel that just aren't really doing much, then again they could just hire blackwater to gun them all down and then arrest them, hell it worked in Afghanistan.....

Of course there is not enough security. Drug cartels are practically just walking back and forth between the border. I completely agree with orion that there should be a log of everyone who passes the border.

@sprooschicken
I apologise for the all-caps, but I made it clear in the first post that I wanted you to support your reasoning.

Technically you are trolling (a form of spam) because your post contained no relavance to the thread.

I agree with chitown's opinion.

I like the idea of building up border security but there should definitly not be any racial profiling happening.

How? Usually the people who come over the boarder are of the nationality of the country that they came from.

How will this log be implemented.

Well it would be wrong to take the first guy that "looks mexican" or speaks spanish and ask for their I.D. Especially if they are citizens who just don't carry I.D.
