I have done this type of thread on other gaming sites, but none of them wanted to take a stance on this issue. Let me try it here, where civilized people are.
Moderators: If I missed something in the rules (I read them 5 times) please lock this thread.
THIS IS NOT MEANT TO INSULT PEOPLE. ^ I can't make it any clearer. Most people think I am insulting others, but I am not trying to.
TROLLS, SPAMMERS, LEAVE THIS THREAD ALONE! You got my thread LOCKED on other sites! Please refrain from flaming me or other people!
Now for the actual discussion.
We see it every-so-often. Another person has been bullied so badly that he/she has committed suicide. What were they being bullied about? They were being told they were gay.<-I hope this isn't going to be starred out. Nothing wrong with that word.
Why are we so afraid of being gay? When you go back in time, you can easily see that we have been afraid of many different things.
1500's---We were afraid of Jews.
The beginning of black slavery in America-1970's-- That certain word was used on African Americans.
1950's---If you were called a communist, you had no future.
2000-present--- If you're gay, you're a target.
This isn't a new trend. But why do we demonize others?! Aren't we human beings? Aren't we smarter than this!?
Until we learn that we are all EQUAL, nothing will change. I would like to hope that we could start here.
No matter what religion or political stance you have, remember one VERY important rule: Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.
Please comment as to why you think we demonize people. Also, please give out ideas on how we can shut down people who hate others (examples above).
There just seems to be a rise on homophobia bullying.
I don't think there's a rise. It's probably much less than it was before because it's more recognized now. I guess it's kind of like racial insults, now the people are more tolerated and the insults are less tolerated.
The easiest way to join together is to fight a common enemy.
Even if there isn't one, people create them.
That's true.
I'm bullied because I'm straight. So what?
We all hate bullying. Most of the insults now are homophobic related. That's part of what this thread is talking about. Both the anti-gay taunts directed at straight people like yourself, and also the anti-gay bullying that is targeted at lesbians.

Regardless of more education and a somewhat better understanding, it will always exist. As for much less, during school i got more taunts towards senior year (granter, from younger students) about my sexuality, and it still goes on in college.
I don't think it matters so much as you get older simply because the older we are the more confident we are and able to shake of the things bigoted morons tend to spew on a daily basis. However at younger ages such behavior must be stopped, it's not a matter of right or wrong at that point, just basic human decency.

1500's-- Not to keen on that one, not sure what was going on there.
slavery-- Quite honestly, it's because the whites of that time did not believe that the Africans were people.
1950's-- This was a massive fear majorly instilled by the Cold War and McArthy with the 'Red Scare'. Mixing a country rivalry with political propaganda
2000's-- This is really not the case. Sure there are people that don't like gays, but there are a lot of other people that do. Me? I really don't care if you're gay, striaght, bi, beastiality, whatever. Just don't bug me about it, and don't hit on me fellas. Women, you can as much as you want :P
But seriously, My theory is that we all need someone to hate, that makes us feel better about ourselves and helps to hide the true wastes of skin we all are.
People who have small ***** always pick on people to make themselves feel.........bigger I guess. The thing is those people usually become the ones who are gay but are stuck in the closet because of their pasts.
........ you were sarcastic right? people dont become gay... and its definitely has nothing to do with their sizes... and some people dont need someone to hate to make themselves feel better (even people with... small sizes). does that mean that people who dont hate arent gay?
again if you were sarcastic just ignore this... i usually dont get sarcasm
I wasn't being sarcastic. I also saying they become gay, I'm saying those people are the ones who realize or become conscious of your sexuality. those people have a lot of trouble coming out of the closet because of the guilt they have.
It's really not often someone changes their sexuality. Only via a traumatic expereience really, and even then, that may just make them not attracted to either sex. You can't change who you are, you can act differently, say you're different, and live differently, but you'll still be the same person.
... then let me give you a suggstion... dont LEARN from southpark...
and just so you know... boys talking about the size is a normal thing espacially when they just start their teenaged life. im probably the only one at school who never talked about it. all the others started measuring and telling others so they can be proud of themselves... last time i checked non of them are gays. knowing what you like better has nothing to do with your size... you also say that most gay people have small sizes...
South park does make some good points in things, but it carries them very far for comedic effect.
Example: Manbearpig. Al Gore is always making a huge deal about Global warming, while it's really not noticable/outside normal patters, and not many people really care what he says anyways.

i know that (even though i dont watch it) but because of the fact they take it to far away it shows wrong things and some people just dont understand that its just jokes... if you learn something then its just in general when its from southpark..
and the last thing we want is people to direct us to southpark as trustable sources XD
Or any cartoon, let's just make that a rule shall we.
Hate does seem to be the human condition, society may change but we will always detest that one thing that is different no matter how small that difference is.

It isn't limited to humans either.
In my city, there was an albino deer that frequently visited houses looking for food. Well, people noticed all the scars and wounds that it had. You can guess that the other deer had problems with it being different (since there are no large predators nearby).
Being fearful of something that is different is genetically implanted into us, just like it is in all animals.
