I have done this type of thread on other gaming sites, but none of them wanted to take a stance on this issue. Let me try it here, where civilized people are.

Moderators: If I missed something in the rules (I read them 5 times) please lock this thread.

THIS IS NOT MEANT TO INSULT PEOPLE.
^
I can't make it any clearer. Most people think I am insulting others, but I am not trying to.

TROLLS, SPAMMERS, LEAVE THIS THREAD ALONE! You got my thread LOCKED on other sites! Please refrain from flaming me or other people!

Now for the actual discussion.

We see it every-so-often. Another person has been bullied so badly that he/she has committed suicide. What were they being bullied about? They were being told they were gay.<-I hope this isn't going to be starred out. Nothing wrong with that word.

Why are we so afraid of being gay? When you go back in time, you can easily see that we have been afraid of many different things.

1500's---We were afraid of Jews.

The beginning of black slavery in America-1970's-- That certain word was used on African Americans.

1950's---If you were called a communist, you had no future.

2000-present--- If you're gay, you're a target.

This isn't a new trend. But why do we demonize others?! Aren't we human beings? Aren't we smarter than this!?

Until we learn that we are all EQUAL, nothing will change. I would like to hope that we could start here.

No matter what religion or political stance you have, remember one VERY important rule: Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.

Please comment as to why you think we demonize people. Also, please give out ideas on how we can shut down people who hate others (examples above).

TROLLS, SPAMMERS, AND FLAMERS, LEAVE!

People decide who they want to be and we should respect that.

i agree with that but its different in this case.

in this case those people decide they want to accept themselves and be who they are. and that is what we should respect

mankind will always discriminate. when we are done with sexuality, we will discriminate something else as if it was a total threat to the worlds infrastructure. who knows, if we make contact with life on other planets, we will discriminate them because they are different.

I've often wondered if that'd be the case if we managed to find life on other planets. Guess I'm not alone.

But, as you said, (
when we are done with sexuality, we will discriminate something else as if it was a total threat to the worlds infrastructure.
) there will always be a "threat" to the world.
It may be brought on by wars, plagues, terrorists, taboos, etc. Whatever the cause, there will always be a negative reaction toward the race, culture, or sexuality that the "threat" originated from.

You are right about most of the causes, in my opinion.

I have very strong feelings about this discrimination too. What ticks me off the most is that it's going to the courts! I cannot believe that people would be so *earmuffs on* Gruasdauarpasgdhaseasgpwerjas ghaseoa asdgphasofhasg'sf *earmuffs off* as to try and limit people just because of whom they have special feelings for. Doesn't that just sound wrong when you read it?! I would be ashamed to live in a state that had banned gay marriage. It's wrong and people should be allowed to live as they will (heh, and I'm typically democratic on my views).

But, the sad realization I and many others have made is that discrimination is a part of being human. It's that little demon that waits inside all of us, patiently staying put until the chance to create chaos and sadness again.

Yep. My grandparents are Americans, but their parents were immigrants who spoke mostly German (I think my great grandpa wasn't even legal). Speaking German in public was almost a crime during WWI and WWII due to public fears. They lived in Wisconsin, so it wasn't as discriminatory as if they'd lived in NY.

meh. I'm not getting the OP's point, it's pretty nonexistent in the world. sure, gay jokes have risen in popularity, but in the grand sceme of things, that means next to nothing.

Caesar was gay, the prussian general that came over to the colonies to aid in the training of the Continental Army was gay, the 2nd Dumbledore is gay, my friend Dave happens to be the most talented person i know in all possible aspects of life, and guess what? He's also gay.

****, I was bi for a year myself, I'm straight now, but returned with a new perspective. They're humans, and with the legalization of gay marriage in NY, other states are sure to follow due to the influence of the state, and soon gays will be able to marry anywhere. I mean, they're human. Let them be happy (or miserable) like the rest of us.

Exactly. They are people who should be treated normally.

When you said "gay jokes" I immediately think of that recent smosh episode on YouTube.

I never watched smosh before. I really don't think I will again. To make fun of sexual group who is already being treated unfairly is just *earmuffs on* sjdh shsosf shfdafshhasf *earmuffs off*... (snowguy13, thanks for letting me borrow your earmuffs).

Granted some of you may be smosh fans and may dislike me for this.

Whenever the late night comedians make a really horrible joke about something, it goes on the news. On the internet, there's no real reporters to talk about this. I wonder how they got to be partners with YouTube...

Not in WW1 it wasn't, America had a very large powerful pro Germany lobby, many Americans supported Germany during the war

"Lulz, zomg, orly?"

You shouldn't classify people as solely Jews and Gays. WHy would the word be boring without these stereotypes? It wouldn't - It would however be boring without these people and personalities contributing to society.

... you know not all jews/gay people have the same personality. also, they arent all that different from other people so the world would probably wont change if sudently all jews/gays would disapear (except for the fact that the world would look for someone else to hate XD). also, most of the time you wouldnt even be able to know if someone is gay/jewish if they wouldnt tell you.

lol this felt very weird to write since being jewish and being gay are like 2 completely different things XD

If you read through, everyone is against bullying period.
There just seems to be a rise on homophobia bullying.

There seems to be an assumption of someone's sexuality too, people especially those my age tend to identify people by how they act, meaning anyone who acts abnormally is automatically classified in a whole new spectrum from everyone else.
