Many people online just slate people who are new to games as if they're terrible people. If you admit to being a noob you will get laughed at and insulted at. I told people I was proud of being a noob on an online game called stick arena and this guy just had a go at me for thinking it is ok to be one. Is this really how online gaming should be portrayed? As a place that is overly competitive where people who are bad will get insulted no stop being people who think they're really hardcore with their 3.94 KDs?
I know, it's so annoying. And not only that, but they are so hard when you kill them.
OMG UB3R H4X NOOB GET OUT YOU TROLL...
And then some other words I cannot say. All they do is rage over some dumb game and then go LOLPWNEDNOOB when they get kills. They're the most annoying idiots on the face of this planet, they think Earth revolves around them, and I want to beat the heck out of their self-centered faces.
I think many people take games too seriously and think it's weird when they find out that someone is playing for fun and doesn't care about their K/D. I bet they wouldn't say stuff like that if you were sitting right next to them, it's just the fact that they are safe from retaliation that makes them act it such a way. And they think they're really cool but are just Tw**s
I think this is just something that happens in FPS games. You won't see it in MMO games. I think this is because of the fact that most MMO games have a larger amount of noobs (like everyone under lvl 10 just begins so is a "noob) then people on BTF saying. I'm noob, don't rage if I kill you.
The only time I feel the need to interact with others on online games besides my friends is to A) tell them off if their being annoying B) not playing the game right or as it was intended or C) if they gloat about themselves or are being an ***.
Genrally I'd say if you're new to a game, gaming, or are just plain smart, ignore comments from people you don't know, and don't pick fights with others. Conversing with people on online games these days is like playing chance. Sometimes you'll get people who are cool to talk to, but generally people make retards out of themselves, and if you can, avoid lowering yourself to argue/bicker with them.
AcidicAce has it right. Reacting to these ***s online will just make them laugh at you even more, this does not hide the fact that it happens, where is the friendly spirit in gaming. Some guy made a serious on you-tube showing this. It is called 'how to annoy people on black ops' all he does is say 'lets have a good game guys' being really friendly and polite and all he gets back s***.
The only time I hate noobs is when I'm play zombies. I don't mind them online, but when I'm playing zombies, I want to make it far. They always want to have fun, but maybe the first 10 rounds you can joke, but then start getting serious and play for real. Every time I play I feel I'm carrying my team because no one really tries or cares after round 20.
True that, but it was quite funny when me and my brother played zombies with these two guys and were just dying on purpose. They got really annoyed because they thought we were being serious but they were are friends list so they thought it was funny afterwards. Carrying your team on zombies is really annoying though, especially when they won't open any doors or hog the random weapon box.
The reason why people generally don't like them is that they mess up the game.
Take Starcraft for example. You're in a 2v2 game. Your partner then asks, "What's a marine?" and "How do I play?"
They didn't take the time to learn how the play before going online and thus were inconsiderate of other players they might be teamed with because of it.
Being a "noob" isn't bad in itself, it just means you're new to the game, but you shouldn't be playing online if you really have no idea how to play yet, that's what the campaign and tutorial are for on pretty much every game. Now if it's a game that only has multiplayer, the players of that game should realise this and not be surprised when someone gets into a game and has no idea how to play it.
I think a problem is that too few people make the distinction between 'newb' and 'noob'. While there is absolutely no problem to being a newb, since after all everyone starts so, being a noob is a problem. According to my definition of 'noob', it's someone who doesn't listen to others, acts stupidly on purpose, and annoys everyone. Such people are not liked at all. Yet there is also a sub-category of noobs, those who call newbs noobs. Those are annoying as well, especially if you're the newb.
Anyway I really don't like the word noob itself, and would rarely if ever call someone like that, since it just makes you look like one yourself.
I don't hate noobs, no one should; Everyone was a noob at some point. Also as some people pointed out, if you do come across a noob, just loosen up and have fun.
I don't hate noobs, but i don't like having them on my team no matter what game i am playing because usually they have to be carried to victory. Unless they are one of those talented noobs, then that's alright. Also, I have run into many noobs that love to talk trash when they are horrible. That annoys the heck out of me, and that is when I make noob jokes against them.
Noob =/= newbie. Newbies are alright. They are new, but they learn. Noobs can be 10 year vets and still play like crap while insulting everyone and everything because they are vets and obviously know everything, even if they die all the time.

This.
It's important we spread the word that noob and newb are not the same thing.
Noobs don't bother me, as long as they play fair, don't talk crap, and try their best. Give a me a noob who tries hard and works as a team any day over an MLG player who is an a-hole.
