I have asked this question many times and never gotten an answer. Is it considered a Sin if a soldier kills a terrorist. As the terrorists are following there religion, when preforming sucide bombings or so I'm told. I would like to know the answer to this question, as I am a Christian and hope to be a soldier when I'm 18. But overall people who kill the enemy are just soldiers who are following orders.
Yeah, it's pretty sinful, it hasn't stopped generations upon generations of Christians before you killing people so you might as well go ahead and be a soldier.
I would say no, but I just don't know I'm just a small man. But we (Christians) killed people for ages think of the Crusades or even further back, Cain and Abel.
Depends. First of course I have to say I don't use the concept of sin as an atheist..
If it is a gratuitous kill, like, 'you're helpless right now and I'm feeling so mighty by killing you, my foe', then of course it's inacceptable. You shouldn't kill someoe only because you can, and only because he is in the ennemy camp.
If it's your life or his, then there's two choices: either you kill him and risk to commit a 'sin' in the eyes of your religion, or you don't shoot and die without having done a 'sin'. But logically, someone who would use the second reflexion would never join the army... if I was forced to join the army and fight in a war, I would of course shoot people who would be threatening my life.
And, like has been said, if christianity had a problem with killing enemies, there wouldn't have been any crusades.
i think most people here forget that it depends on what religion you are?
as for judaism, no its not a sin. there were many wars in the bible and it is ok to kill someone (ok as in not a sin) as a soldier.
If you ask me it'd depend on who fired first.
its war.... if you wait so you can have a clean conscience (spelled wrong?) you will die...
anyway, i dont think its a sin. but as hahiha said. i think that its only acceptable when there is no other choice (except for diying of course). its one of the main reasons why i didnt want to join the army. i didnt want to find myself in such a situation. and it has nothing to do with my belief but with my morals and the things i can do.
I would say it's highly situational on whether or not it's wrong. You would have to truly be fighting against something that there is no other way to stop or defending yourself. If it's a war over land, then you're no better than killing someone so you can use their house.
Well I don't believe in that so called "sin". But I still think killing anybody shouldn't be something somebody should do, and if you do it, at-least not in pride.
As the terrorists are following there religion, when preforming sucide bombings
I don't really have anything to say about the soldier thing (I really don't know enough about the military), but I felt the need to comment on this sentence. Terrorism actually has very little to do with religion, religion is merely a means of justifying terrorism. No where in their religion does it tell them to perform suicide bombings. That sentence is like me saying that the Crusaders who took part in the Crusades were following their religion, which is not very accurate and fairly skewed.
I really do not think it is a sin. As a Christian my self, I believe being in the military is for the good of your country, and protection of others. It's not a good thing, but it must me done. For example, Iraq. Many Americans there get kills on the terrorists, and yes, I don't believe it is a sin. If your life is on the line, I believe it would be ok if you are killing someone EVIL or someone who WANTS TO KILL YOU. "Kills for thrills" is not even close to acceptable.
