So, uh, yeah, the title pretty much says it. Lots of topics turn into religion debates, so this is meant for that. Mine is Atheist. Feel free to oppose, but I'll oppose your post, too.
Do you recall what happened after the ark landed? Noah had sex with his daughters while drunk on wine. Where is the parable?
Sorry. Noah was the one who got drunk and lied in his tent naked, where his son saw him. I forgot what happened next. Eh, I think I combined two stories there.
Sorry for the triple post, but it was Lot the "Just" who got drunk and had sex with his daughters.
Lot ... dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him.... And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us ... Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, Behold, I lay yesternight with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. -- Genesis 19:30-36
I always get those two confused.
So what is the parable there? Lot was also a good guy, he was the one who got caught in Yahweh's bet and tortured, having everything he loved taken from him. I think.
Wow. I am really bad at this. I just remember the one who was tortured had a three letter name.
Lot was the one who had is wife turned into a pillar of salt and offered his daughters (The ones he later has sex with) to a gang attempting to **** some angels that where visiting him?

Job I'd have to think about it to find a positive parable. For Lot, don't disobey God.
Lot...He was the one with the daughter sex? How is that not going against god? It isn't even seen as a bad thing? I could see his wife looking back at everything she knew and love for a second and being horribly killed (Did Lot even tell his wife not to look back?) would be "Don't disobey god" but the whole thing with his daughters, and offering them to people who where threatening to have forced sexual intercourse with angles as good, which many modern people find insane or disgusting.
not truely apart of any religion but i do belive in the christian god and i have a strong fear of god. that and my dad was raised and a catholic so even though i've never gone to church i am somewhat closer to being a catholic by birth and my raising.
Why do you fear someone that it supposed to love you dearly and you to love Him back? I find it paradoxical that Christians fear deeply someone they claim is a dispenser of eternal love and joy.

Some do, others don't. I think in general there are the ones who love him, and think he loves them back; the ones who fear him well, I have no idea.

Found this floating around on google. Should explain what most Christians think about "fear".

i find it pretty normal. im sure many christians fear him and afraid to admit it. its so high and it becomes something they are afraid to fear. like when you try to convince yourself that your gf isnt cheating on you even though you know it.
for example those you try to convert other people or those who warn us from hell because we arent christians. in a way they just make god look like a monster and im pretty sure that those people fear him.
not to mention that if im not wrong christians believe that we are all sinners anyway. its a pretty pesimistic thought XP
im pretty sure that probably only the christians who think they are 100% holy and pure arent afraid of him.

But in the end, why be afraid of him? If you don't do anything wrong, why go through life fearing Him? I just find it strangely odd.

Eh, not really. I don't consider myself 100% holy and pure and I think he loves me, and I love him. I'm sure there are a lot more like me, because I've come across priest how preach that instead of fearing; so it's likly the love thing is common. Although there are many who think he loves you and you should be fearful, which I find a little confusing.
