So, uh, yeah, the title pretty much says it. Lots of topics turn into religion debates, so this is meant for that. Mine is Atheist. Feel free to oppose, but I'll oppose your post, too.
I'm not sure how to word this... Agnostic is what I label myself as, but I won't say there isn't a chance at some sort of higher power somewhere out there. I kind of hope there is too, for some reason. Maybe it's the Christian childhood. -shrug-

Basically, it comes down to this.
Do you believe there is a supernatural being out there.
If the answer is yes, you're a theist. If the answer is no, you're an atheist. If the answer is I don't know, you're agnostic.
Hoping that there is some higher goal/purpose is quite different from believing one exits.
im roman catholic, I find your post offensive
Pretty much what Dewi said. Don't come to these threads if you're offended that easily.
I was raised by a very religious family, but it didn't really rub off. I asked far too many questions about the bible and then decided it might be a good idea to learn about all the other religions as well.
Despite living in a Christian country, every time there is a census a huge number of people put their religion down as Jedi, which always makes me laugh.
Nah I'm Catholic, but when I see how stupid the vast majority of Christians are on the Internet, it makes me wish I wasn't. Ask me anything about what the bible claims to have happened and I'll give you a mostly reasonable answer unlike a lot of Christians.

Ok. So how did the whole Noah's Ark thing work, if you think that actually happened? And how can you explain all the violence in the OT?

You don't think that might derail the thread a bit? Why can't you take it to your profiles?
Anyways, the vast majority of people are stupid on the internet, not just Christians. I don't particularly care what religion anyone is other than personal interest of seeing how they act vs their religious beliefs and it never turns into an argument unless some claim is made.
Noah's Ark didn't happen. As for the violence in the old testament, what about violence today? It's the same thing, people are dying, blah blah. I don't believe everyone in the bible was high and mighty, I don't believe the violence was right.

As if the thread hasn't already been derailed enough. I'm showing what I believe in OH GOD I SOUND LIKE A STUPID CHRISTIAN NOOOOO
Sorry for not using the quote feature, I'm on my phone and I really can't be bothered :s
The bible was written by humans, and we all know they tend to get things wrong. If thousands of years ago, people wanted to justify their violence by saying God supported it, then good on them for being such good con artists.
Aye. But why did they put it in the Bible then?
The same reason Jesus supposedly taught with parables. The stories were made up, but it's the message that was important.

So how do you know which part is right? If the part about Noah is wrong, then why is the part about Jesus right? (I assume you believe in Jesus, or you would not consider yourself a Christian).

So where is the parable of Noah's ark? Or what happened afterwords?

In the simplest form: Noah was a good bloke, always doing the right thing, so everyone else was punished and he was rewarded.

I believe Jesus lived. The stories of him in the NT may or may not be factual. If they aren't, they used Jesus as a symbol. People followed him, they believed what he said, so those followers said Jesus told these parables* in an attempt to get their messages across to thousands.
*I believe Jesus did teach using parables, I just think a large number of the parables in the bible may have been made up after his death.

Do you recall what happened after the ark landed? Noah had sex with his daughters while drunk on wine. Where is the parable?

So how can you decide what is true and what is a parable? Is the last supper a parable? Is Jesus himself a parable? Or even Yawheh? Is there a god, or is that just a parable to?
