Here's a link that's actually FOR the SOPA/PIPA. The scary part is, it still sound like a horrible idea... Even when they ridicule the fears of the companies like google and such, by saying "oh, we would NEVER take away freedom of speech.. This bill doesn't do THAT," it doesn't reassure anyone and what the companies that actually know what the internet is like say their part it seems like legitimate concerns..

I was reading the MPAA's blog that had the same slimey feel to it.

This is starting to make me reaaaally dislike copyright and everything surrounding it. I can understand why it's there, but it seems people try to take everything to far, most of all the government, to seize as much power as they can lay their hands on.

I've been questioning it for some time. copyright/trademark is suppose to be like a shield to protect the one who comes up with this stuff. However these corporations are using it more like a weapon against individuals.
In today's age and the way they're being abused I think these laws need to be revised.

Well, they probably see it as an abuse of power because they think it's because you support piracy... Or something like that.

Even if it did come down to that studies have shown piracy really isn't an issue as these corporations make it out to be. Further more as shown int he Mike Mozart videos I've posted these corporations created the phenomena of online piracy in the first place, likely just so they could go and complain about it and get laws like these passed.

I came to that same realization around November. Artists don't even control their own copyrights. And you definitely know its corporations using it as a weapon when major artists come out against the legislation (Radiohead, ok Go, MC Hammer, etc.).

in all fairness everything made after the 90's, the ideas, stories, none of it was properly one mans thought, it is all recycled. are they being punished. NO. None of the ideas are original anymore and they never will be, every person in the world will continue to break a copyright law intentionally and non-intentionally, does that mean the government will persecute everyone in the world. I'd like to see that happen.

Anyways the whole copyright issue is just a smokescreen for what is actually happening. The internet is the biggest source of information in the world. People willingly share ideas, who they are, they're aspirations, inspirations, they're entire life, etc. The government wants to be able to control all of that for their own selfish means.

This whole censorship issue is beginning to look like and i fear it will end up like the - The Great Firewall of China. At this alarmingly fast rate, i'd say we are not too far from such a conclusion.

thats true, if they want to control the internet because of piracy then they should first control the music market because they copied music and other things before the internet was created. one of the reason why they want something like SOPA/PIPA is that the internet is easier to control with a law like SOPA/PIPA.

do you know that the wall of china was created to protect china? or did you mean an other wall?

I was referring to how this little double-edged shield is not without its problems. They block off anything to do with criticising the government, anything to do with the Tibetans freedom, the riots of, I think, 1989 that were held against inflation and the shortage of career options for the students, the Falun Gong and police brutality.

Yes it protects the country from child pornography, extreme violence, inciting of both non and racial hatred, etc. But with this wall you lose the right to freedom of speech and that is something no man should have ownership of.

Article on Megaupload

Isn't targeting file sharing websites profiling? or maybe genocide/webicide?

You know I'm getting a little tired of being attacked by my own country.

Something to consider about this Megauploads take down. This means the government has the records of who has ever used them. What do you think they will do with those records?

MegaUpload Dangerous Secrets affect YOU, Mike Mozart JeepersMedia ACTA / PIPA / SOPA

This is just sickening...

Though I hear Anonymous retaliated with a hung take down of their own.

What they can do and what they will do should be two different things. Taking down the site and arresting its owners brought them an attack from Anonymous(they also got fbi.gov btw), arresting individuals from those records would only bring more harm to them.

People are so riled up about the SOPA and PIPA that they forget that there was a bill passed where if your suspected of being a terrorist; they can send you to jail without you going to court and without substantial proof. And the government can keep you in jail indefinitely. We are sacrificing or freedoms for the sake of security. Why aren't the people angry about this? I can just see this being abused in a very ugly matter. Don't let bills pass that suppress our freedom, INCLUDING the SOPA and PIPA act.

Yes, though at this rate I really wouldn't put it past them to try anyway.

It hasn't been forgotten and I'm sure with many it has only fueled the current fire. Further damage had to be stopped before we can move one to fix damage already made.
The people have shown they do still have some power, I just hope it will be an influence to continue to fight.

Here is a list of supports of the SOPA bill. These are people who need to be removed from office. For those of you old enough to vote or will be soon keep them in mind.

If you guys haven't seen it yet, there's an excellent video on this issue which sums up the hypocrisy of the very companies who are pumping their money into supporting SOPA/PIPA:

Be a Hero and STOP SOPA NOW

There's a bit of padding in the vid, but watch it to at least 3:00 and I think you'll see my point

Does protesting against SOPA really matter now? Congress said they dropped it, they're not going for it anymore.
