I was wondering if you actually do say the Pledge. Meself, I don't. I'll stand up for it, although I don't feel like standing. My reasons? Well, for one, I don't want to pledge to a country. Don't get me wrong, I think this country is great, but I don't pledge to anything. And, second, it says "with liberty and justice for all." Really? Can homosexuals marry the person they love? Can Atheists hold a place in office in some states? We are *a little bit* far from liberty, equality, and justice for all.
Also, only 3 of the founding fathers were catholic, so while it might be crude to lump all the other denominations as Protestant, most of them can be broadly classified as so. At least you've learnt things today then.
because your american and just be greatfull for being free while you can before other countries kill us because everyone else in this ****ed up country is fat unlike me i joined the navyseals and marine special forces because im not a pu.ssy like you

Thank you for this perfect example of the typical arrogant, ignorant, unaware American Citizen.
1) We are not the only country which gives its citizens rights.
2) Not every other country is trying to kill us.
3) I don't really care what branch of the military you're in.
okay i never said were the only country that gives civil rights or that every country is trying to kill us im just saying your ungreatfull but as soon as something bad happens youl come crying back and say the pledge to no end
okay i never said were the only country that gives civil rights
You certainly imply that America is unique in that regard.
"because your american and just be greatfull for being free while you can before other countries kill us "
im just saying your ungreatfull
Ungrateful for what? For being born somewhere I had no choice over?
I don't understand how it's even possible to have patriotism. The land isn't alive. The government is just a conglomeration of politicians, not some holy idea or thing. America is just a name.
but as soon as something bad happens youl come crying back and say the pledge to no end
Something bad like what?
I can think of -no- situation where saying the pledge would do any good for anyone.
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
1) Why should I pledge myself to a piece of land and politicians which change every 6 years?
2) I'm not grateful or ungrateful. There's nothing to be grateful about.
3) It's full of lies/untruths.
"one nation under God" is simply not true. Not everyone believes in the Abrahamic God, and this country wasn't founded on specific religious grounds, although religious morals did have their influence.
" with liberty and justice for all." We do not have liberty and justice for all.
people have fought and died to play little games on the computer and live the way you want to live with no judgement and to not say a little pledge is sad especially if your to scared to risk your life for freedom like me or do you want to live in a communist country
People have fought and died all throughout history. I'm supposed to be grateful to people who I've never met, never will meet, and who fought pointless wars because of personal political agendas? Sorry, no.
nd live the way you want to live with no judgement
Pfft. We get judged regardless. You're judging me now.
to not say a little pledge is sad especially if your to scared to risk your life for freedom like me
Okay, I'm going to call you on the whole Navy Seals thing. You're 16. I don't know exactly when they allow people in, but I'm 99.9% sure it isn't until at LEAST 17.
Who said I was "afraid to risk my life for freedom?" I would fight if I had cause to. Not saying the pledge doesn't make me a coward, nor does it mean I hate America, or think it's a bad place to live. It's a pointless repetition of words which only serves to essentially brainwash children into blind patriotism.
do you want to live in a communist country
Communist ideals aren't bad. They just don't work in practice because of human nature.
my parents signed saying its okay for me to join if your 16 and want to join just ask your parents to sign for you to join as soon as your 18 witch i did
It's always good to be grateful for the relatively easy life you live (gosh I sound like a christian..), but that doesn't automatically commit you to say the pledge. Or the other way round, if you don't say the pledge, that doesn't automatically mean you're not grateful. It's just that there are other ways to show it, and people can have other reasons to not say the pledge; at least I think it's a shame that it's obligatory in so many states in school. No one should be forced to show gratefulness in a specific way, unless you wanna lose that freedom you're so keen on.
Communist ideals aren't bad. They just don't work in practice because of human nature.
that's true, The REAL communism is everyone helps everyone (in a nutshell), but we cannot manage that unless we gather everyone with those exact ideals and put them together in a country
oi i agree with the Pledge being rather useless, there is no point in it honestly other than drilling into our minds that 'MERICA is great and awesome
Seals are unique to the Navy: only active members of the Navy, not Marines or other branches, are eligible to become Seals. You could be one or the other, not both. If you'd choose Marines first, you'd need to fufill your contractual duties with that branch first before transferring into the Navy and training to join the Seals.
Back to topic. "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America" - Devoting yourself to a section of cloth.
"and to the republic for which it stands" - It's funny how many people still try to claim we're in a democracy.
"one nation, under God, indivisible" - The inclusion of 'under God' was put in to mean "our nation believes in the Abrahamic God, and he's on our side". Gramatically in the phrase it means "Godwilling, our nation will always be on the same side". Considering that the two-party political system is pitting neighbor against neighbor, the statement is false.
"with liberty and justice for all." - It's been stated many times already that certain freedoms are still restricted. Also, the Patriot Act is still in effect.
