No, it doesn't make it right, but you still have the constitutional right to do it and I would never try to take that away from anyone.

What's wrong with all these people talking about it pissing them off.

No duh, they try to piss you off, thats why they want to make a statement.

You trying to ban them from doing it is basically telling them that what they did worked and your falling for stupid symbolic farcities and that your pride matters more than your thought.

thats a good point.

But think of the mental effects of seeing a flag burned could have on veterans who served in the line of duty, especially those with PTSD.

what happens if you commit treason anyways?
redfan45

its the only crime in the constitution punishable by death explicitly

The Supreme Court has allowed flag burning as a form of protest in the 1st amendment of the Bill of Rights. Though i would never burn a flag, i respect this ruling

if you burn the american flag in america you should be shipped directly to siberia. period. if you don't like the country and you are too dumb to think of a better way to provoke change then get out.

There's an old Merle Haggard song that says it quite well: "If you don't love it leave it, let this song that I'm singing be a warning, when your running down my country, your walking on the fighting side of me."

Right, America is only for those who accepts "land of the free and home of the brave blindly".
If one thinks America is not doing its "job"and protests, they are no American.

America is unique in that it's a country built on dissent. Our forefathers even guaranteed that their ancestors would have the same rights to dissent even against their own government.

Burning a flag won't provoke change anymore then posting on a forum. But we have the right to do it. Posting on a forum, stating our thoughts and opinions, and yes even burning a flag.

i'm saying violent protest and uncivil actions such as incinerating a symbol that represents hundreds of years of hard work and sacrifice are unintelligent ways of provoking change.

i support change, and i dont accept everything in my country blindly. in actuality i think a lot of things are pretty fu*ked up.

it's american to protest, thats how this country was formed. the declaration of independence was an act of protest, many of the signers were tortured and killed by the british.

protests like the march on washington and the freedom rides of the sixties were intelligent and civil ways of protest, and get this, THEY CHANGED WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS WRONG.

so the last person you saw burning a flag, did they get what they were fighting for?

maybe its not the burning of the flag that i don't support, maybe it's more of the unintelligence thats running rampant through the country that drives me crazy

Get this: I love my country, but do I currently like it? No.

Do I want change? Yes.

Can I organize huge rallies in order to make a point? No.

Can I go out and speak my mind? Yes.

Is there way to make a point other than doing something drastic? Probably not.

you'll get attention, but the wrong kind of attention

if you cant make change yourself, find or support someone who can

burn flags if you want, i just don't see that doing any good.

maybe people don't get it because they lack an emotional attachment..
do you have a favorite sports team, or one that your on? its like burning the jersey of your own quarterback.. its just gonna make people mad, theres not going to be anything positive that comes out of that.

I'm not defending the act so much as our right to do it. It may not bring change but just claiming that it insults people is not a valid reason to stop people from doing it.

We may hate the things people do and hate what they stand for but they have a right to do it as long as it's not hurting anyone.

For instance, we all hate the KKK and what they stand for but they have the right to spew their insanity as long as it's not actively inciting people to violence. We may not like it but thanks to the bill of rights, we can't stop it. Repression is never a good thing and only leads to bad stuff.

you do have a point kris.

as much as i don't like it, it seems in america you should be able to do it.

if it becomes constitutional to burn the flag, i would request that it would be constitutional to light the flag burner on fire in an act of protest as well. :]

i'll protest flag burning by burning flag burners.

I think that's either defined as "Grand Arson" or "murder". Sorry.
