You don't need a licence to fly, just to take others up. Both of these did have their licences though... I can't get a licence until I am 16, but you can fly as long as you have parental agreement.
I am taking flying lessons and I just turned 15. My first flight was a small intro by a friend at 13, then 2 serious lessons at 14. I am scheduled to have another lesson soon. And yet I cannot drive a car or even have a learner's permit.
I will get a licence, but just for a hobby. There are several differnt kinds. Base lets you take people up. They can't pay you, but they donate money for gas. The next level lets you charge money. Don't really care if I make it that far. I started this thread because my mother is paranoid of me flying. She thinks it is dangerous. I wanted to see what you thought. *She gets motion sickness and is afraid of heights. She doesn't like planes, but is not scared of them and will ride them without fear.
Oooh I see. I was watching a Home Improvement episode that was like that once. Randy wanted to learn how to fly, and Jill was freaking out about it. So Wilson (who used to fly in the war) brought up the idea of bringing him out to fly, with his parents in the plane to see that it was OK.
If it works on Home Improvement, it can totally work in real life.... really.
Chili I did the same at your age. I didn't follow through though. I only received a handful of lessons and moved on to other things. I was learning from a Viet Nam vet. A little cuckoo, but a good teacher.
But I think plane accidents are coded into my families blood. Not only did my great uncle survive a crash in Israel, but my father has been in a plane crash. The closest things that's ever happened to me was the wheels fell off while we were on the runway and the plane dropped on it's belly.
The reason there are more car crashes is simple. Thin how many cars there are in the world, then compare that to the number of cars. There are around 475,000 aircraft in operation in the world. and there are around 600,000,000 cars in operation around the world. Obviously there are going to be more car crashes as opposed to airoplanes. So the planes just seem safer.
