I saw yet another video of a group of protestors burning the American flag. The disgust me! Please tell me someone else out here agrees that it is wrong and should be illegal.
as much as it is legal to do so. what about the soldiers that died under that flag. seems like it goes to prove a point but i still don't see what it proves
The point is 'fuck the system'. Showing your disdain for the system by burning its symbol. You may not like it. ersonally I don't buy the whole military slant on it either. That's not what flags are supposed to represent.
We have a system that lets us say 'fuck the system'. How much more lenient can it get? The reason other countries want this right is because they don't have it. Now that we have it, protesting could do without burning the flag.
That's the thing about freedom of speech, it's all or nothing. Personally I am amazed how many people are offended by the burning of the flag saying it shouldn't be part of free speech, yet hardly anyone here is advocating removing the right tomake racial hate speeches, or things of that nature.

Besides, making this illegal will cause unnecessary fear that the government is "taking away our rights" even if it's just that one. I'm only saying that I think it's disrespectful to, in my opinion, the greatest country on earth, and most Americans would feel the same. I'm saying protests that aren't directly related to something the government is doing wrong shouldn't involve us burning our own flags.

I would, but that's not what this thread is about.
I am just making the point that people get up in arms about flags being burnt and say it shouldn't be part of freedom of speech, whilst race hate speeches are made daily.

It's all about symbolism. The protest may not directly be linked to the government, but most often it is. It would be kind of pointless otherwise.

I'm sure most Americans would agree with you, but freedom of speech applies to everyone, and that includes extremists of all kinds, whether you like it or not.
I'd also like to ask why a nation's greatness matters in this issue. Does that make the act of burning the flag any more or less heinous?
Well it is a form of speech, which in the US is protected by the 1st amendment, but I find it to be in very poor taste. It is basically a slap in the face to every person who has died serving their counrty when this act is performed.

Like I said before those soldiers died under the flag for all the rights it stands for. And one of those rights is burning the flag.
Hate speech is illegal, and can have you detained. I think that flag burning should result in a fine, and considered an act of uncivil disobedience.
Did you guys see the people who "rotested" by getting naked, and walking around a whole bunch of kids playing in a park? Like, kids were playing in a fountain and a naked guy walked right up to them, and you know what they're eye-level with... When parents were disgusted and started to leave (with their kids, of course), the "rotesters" called them intolerant and yelled nasty things at them. And the worst part is, because they were "rotesting," they weren't arrested, fined, or anything!! This is an example of our freedoms being abused, ans should be disallowed.
