Let's look at why the Greek Cypriots rejected this: Reasons for Greek Cypriotic rejection

And how long did England,France,USA and Russia have Germany for compared to this.

Completely irrelevant. German territory was occupied as a result of their aggressions against their neighboring nations and to ensure their demilitarization as required by their surrender. Cyprus was invaded by a foreign military as part of an internal coup. The comparisons are not in any way applicable.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Annan_Plan_for_Cyprus

Check this out, it looks like a really well thought out plan to me but for some reason the greek cypriots won't accept it =/

Long-standing tensions between the ethnic Greek and Turkish Cypriot populations â" culminating in 1974 with a coup d'état, an attempt to annex the island to Greece, and a military intervention by Turkey in response â" resulted in a partitioning of the island, resettlement of many of its inhabitants, and a subsequent unilateral declaration of independence by the north in 1983

After having read this I realised that Greece tried to annexe an island with Turkish Cypriots still residing on it. We had some kind of right/motive to defend them even though it might have ben perceived really brutal.

But the Annan Plan seems to be a pretty good solution, maybe it needs to be revised a bit more.

Really?? Did you read the information on the link I provided? Oh and Greece was trying to annex the island because that's what the Cypriots wanted. Bear in mind that 77% of the population was of Greek heritage, with only 18% Turkish. I would say that's a pretty good reason for the people to want to be reunited with their original nation. And let's not get started on the horrific civil rights violations committed by the Turkish army during the invasion.

The history of Northern Cyprus begins with the gaining of independence of a united Cyprus from British rule in August 1960. Independence was only achieved after both Greek and Turkish Cypriots agreed to respectively abandon plans for enosis (union with Greece) and taksim (Turkish for 'artition'.

MrWalker, this clearly shows that WAY BACK at the creation of Cyprus as a nation it was clearly understood that no type of annexation would be made. Greece having tried to annexe Southern Cyprus may have been reasonable but imagine Turkey's view of it and the immediate and brute reaction it would have thought of replying with.

I am not saying that ANY of the things that we did back then were right but I am saying that you have to admit that we had some kind of rightful motive. But we failed to act in a correct and civilized manner, and i frown deeply upon Turkey's 20th century military brains.

However we must find a solution to this soon, everybody wants to see a United Cyprus and I think that both sides should try to negotiate a bit more instead of taking Plans from the U.N. and rejecting them.

Peace is essential if we want the 21st Century to survive.

Agreed. Turkey needs to withdraw it's military forces, make reparations for the displaced Greek Cypriots, return all held territory to the rightful and recognized government, and apologize profusely to every single Greek Cypriot for the rapes, murders, and thefts that occurred as a result of the invasion. Anything short of that would be grossly inadequate.

I have a great one, thanks. Now would you kindly take your immature and ignorant comments elsewhere? We are actually having a mutual intelligent debate. If you want to make moronic and senseless comments kindly take it somewhere where you are not offending others by doing so.

Indeed but on a completely seperate topic:

n 1963, the Greek Cypriot wing of the government created the Akritas plan which outlined a policy that would remove Turkish Cypriots from the government and ultimately lead to union with Greece. The plan stated that if the Turkish Cypriots objected then they should be "violently subjugated before foreign powers could intervene".

Tell me that doesn't sound violent, can you imagine if we hadn't stopped that plan by dividing the island (giving us the small piece)? Greece would be the ones apologizing to us right now. So weird when you think about it :S

Please refrain from posting on this thread if you don't have comments that will help evolve the Cyprus-Turkey situation. I really appreciate your honesty and helpfulness towards showing how great a country Turkey is but I think you should let us discuss this. By the way im only 14

"there is no doubt that the main victims of the numerous incidents that took place during the next few months were Turks."[10] Seven hundred Turkish hostages, including women and children, were taken from the northern suburbs of Nicosia. Nikos Sampson, a nationalist and future coup leader, led a group of Greek Cypriot irregulars into the mixed suburb of Omorphita and attacked the Turkish Cypriot population.[12] By 1964, 193 Turkish Cypriots and 133 Greek Cypriots had been killed, with a further 209 Turks and 41 Greeks missing and presumed dead.

This is what happened preceding the Republic of Turkey's intervention (i love that sniper ^^). These events were never judged by a court or even held as a guilty act/crime. I feel that they should apologize for this after we apologise for our consequent military movement as this was truly the MAIN FACTOR of our defensive action.

The facts still remain that we owe a million apologies to Southern Cyprus. But now there is more to it then just our apology

I'm the only active Turkish user posting on this thread so as a consequence I get to chose what we are talking about, because I represent my country (AKA: THE NAME OF THIS TOPIC).

Selamlar.
