Or the fact they supported the Germans in WW1 and 2. A little oxymoronic. How so?
Well...that's a quote from Woody on the first page. He said there that the Turks supported Germany in WW1 and 2 there. But just now, he said that they didn't involve themselves in WW2, so yeah. A little contradictory.
And I'm an idiot. I don't know why I said something about WW1 in my last post. And you're right, I guess, Woody. Turkey was with the Allies in WW2, but only after it was certain they would win.
The Turks fought in WW1, gallipoli is one bloodest Australian campaigns. Its not a surprise that they didnt support WW2 because there are two different regiems the kiazer being WW1 and the Nazi party being WW2 which was fascist.
Also; no, they weren't. Russia declared war on Turkey in 1914 for their alliance with Germany, and Turkey entered the war officially in late 1914 on the side of the central powers, helping Germany with their offensive against Russia. That's pretty early in the war, since it started in 1914 and ended in 1918.
Thats ww1 were talking about. Nothing you said there refutes anything about the fact they were neutral for the vast majority of ww2.
And yeah...I was wrong with the Axis. I got confused. Sue me.
Id rather point out the fact you were wrong. Sorry for not being american and turning a minor issue into a law suit.
A little contradictory.
Contradictory yes. Oxymoronic? Well, ill leave it to you to look up the definition of the word.
This is what happened preceding the Republic of Turkey's intervention (i love that sniper ^^). These events were never judged by a court or even held as a guilty act/crime. I feel that they should apologize for this after we apologise for our consequent military movement as this was truly the MAIN FACTOR of our defensive action.
I conquer that Turkey had a right to intervene in some way, but the Turkish Cypriots were in fact Turkish Cypriots. Turkey shouldn't have launched a military offensive. Instead, they should have compiled evidence and reported crimes of humanity to the UN. That would have been the more sensible choice, in my opinion.
Turkey was still ruled by the Ottamans until 1923, when we became the Republic of Turkey. Thats why I don't like it when someone says "Turkey helped the Germans in WW1", because we're a different country now. For a democratic country, we're still pretty young. We are pretty poor and still considered a LEDC (as far as I know, I think I read somewhere that we're considered a MEDC?)
Also it's Türkiye. Some Englishman or whoever thought it would be funny to call us Turkey.
