In these troubling times we see in the news that more and more people are losing their jobs. Hence, we see a rise in criminal activity. There was a news article that just recently caught my attention in the Wall Street Journal, âBusinesses Say Theft by Their Workers Is Up.â Here is the link to the article if you wish to see it, just copy and paste it in your search bar:
Anyways, meh, you can say that it's wrong and what not, but when you're put into that situation, I bet the "rightness" of what you're doing starts to matter less.
This seems to be what most posters here ignore. They post as if they were at their present situation (inside his home and using the computer). It is easy to say that stealing is only good if you steal the rich guys, like Robin Hood. What if you had debts to pay, can't even buy food or water, sleep on your car and it goes on. Your view changes with your situation.
@chrisc actually in the U.S. the inmates actually live more comfotable lives than most people out on the streets. so if they steal and get away they win, and if they steal and get caught they win that way too.
Good for you, bad for others. If you don't have food shouldn't you simply get a job? I would be happier if no one had to steal after all. Oh well thats just the world we live in...
Err huh... Interesting... No, it's not. Even if you think you deserve it, it's not right to even steal a pack of gum. Ok, so people in, these troubling times, are able to fill they're fridge up a little, is it right to go in and take they're stuff? Not in my opinion. And what if it is from a family who is struggling to even have food? It's tough but not tough enough to steal. And you know I am surprised people even would say yes! Did you know in the Great Depression the crime rate didn't go up? I know our Nation which started out as a Christian nation, built on Christian principles has gone astray, allot and is set up for a HUGE downfall, but they believed God was always watching, and the crime rate did not go up at all. So try to get a job or a second job, we have to tough it out, it's the only way. Stealing for Survival, BAD, WRONG.
Stealing in whatever kind of situation is bad, zombie apocalypse, or normal life, this is because you are stealing from someone and taking what you have not earned.
However if the question was "would you still do it?" I would say hell yes, because I am greedy, and selfish (most people are, don't even try to deny it) and I want to survive. I will put my self above others. But in normal life, and if my survival did not depend on it, I will not steal no matter what.
If it was honestly a life or death situation then yes. Forget stealing, I think you'd find that most people no matter what they say now would kill in life or death situations.
Stealing for survival wouldn't make you a bad person, or even make the act bad, but I would hope that we all use other means to save ourselves, because crime doesn't pay (cliche). If we're in a recession, stealing (I assume you mean robbing stores or banks or businesses or something) would only make them poorer, they'd pay less, and our recession would worsen. It all depends on how desperate you are, or if you're also feeding your family. Then it may take a whole different route. I hope we manage to save our economy before we actually have to resort to theivery.
