The US has way more deaths by guns than Switzerland

So to protect themselves they need a gun? I think not

Killing someone is a horrible thing to do no matter who it is...

Ok Grimml I will completely ignore what you say because:

1. It doesn't apply to you
2. You won't understand what we're talking about for self-defense reasons unless you live in the USA.

I do need a gun for self-defense because I hang around some of the bad parts of the town(/state).

I know, another reason to ban guns I just wanted to say that you don't need to be American to talk about guns...

I appreciate that. But this is more of an American issue, not a general discussion about guns. I should look up a list of all the states where carrying a concealed weapon is illegal.

Valkery, I would be more than happy to answer your question if you would include a quote?

Wheres here?

Switzerland.

Why do you think the passed the 2nd Admen?

Different time, different circumstances.

grimml, Switzerland has had neutrality laws since... ? You obviously have strong anti-gun opinions and I can respect that but America has been openly threatened by Ahmadenijad of Iran and, "if he had too, he would use the tunnels from Mexico...". Correct me if I'm wrong but I've not read any threats to Switzerland like that.

As for a different time,... What the present administration wanted to accomplish last year, about this time, with gun bans and stronger gun control was going to start secession all over again, with Texas leading the way.

Just from reading your posts from this and other threads I would have to say you aren't kidding when you like to argue.

But may only people who live in that country talk about it? ;

Yea kinda, to have a full understand of what we are talking about.

The OP was open to all but I agree with Dubness to the extent that you don't know all of the facts, you're just stating opinion.

That's F***ing Bull***!! There is not going to a Civil War over Gun Control! Texas isn't going to secede! My God! WTF are you smoking!?!?

On topic: Maybe the only guns civilians should own are either bolt-action rifles or a pump action shotgun. Both are used for hunting, and the shotgun is good for home defense because chances are, you are going to be in close quarters.

1817, since the Congress of Vienna (I think).

I don't have anti-gun opinions. I know that the army and police need guns. I can also understand why some people want guns for self-defense. But Iran will never attack the USA with soldiers, maybe with (nuclear) missiles, but I doubt that. And then guns won't help you.

I know that guns propably won't be forbidden (neither in the USA nor in Switzerland) and I can live with that. But persons who want to buy guns should be checked before they can buy one. Their datas should also be stored. No private person (and no hunter) needs a fully automatic weapon. And the guns should be kept where the children can't get them...

Gaddafi (President/Dictator of Lybia) announced the Djihad (Holy War) against Switzerland. What a crazy guy^^

By saying that you just contradicted everything you've posted.

No duh, I have no idea why you felt the need to post something like that, we haven't said anything about giving them to children.

As for the fully automatic weapon, AR15 is a fully-automatic weapon for citizens for home defense which, granted, is generally a shotgun but if that's their preference. And some people are just gun enthusiasts who like shooting targets and trying out different guns.

Actually Deagle, the Texan Governor just last year said in one of his interviews that gun rights are beginning to be more and more strict. (and of course you know how Texas is, if you are trespassing you get shot, everyone owns some kind of gun down there) And if there was a suspension on guns then Texas would secede from the Union.

I was watching the news. Apparently some people were nervous because Starbucks allowed people into their restaurant with guns. What sissies!

Let's say you have a restaurant that has a no guns allowed rule. 19 of 20 people in the restaurant are good citizens who would never murder another person. That 20th person is some crazy mo-fo. That crazy mo-fo decides to shoot as many people in the restaurant as possible. He shoots 10 people in the restaurant before the police come and take him out.

Lets say you have 20 people in a restaurant that allows guns. Half those people have guns and one of those people is a crazy mo-fo. The crazy mo-fo decides he wants to shoot people. The other 9 people who have guns are good citizens, and they draw their guns on the insane psychopath. Including the psychopath, there have only been 3 people who ended up getting shot.

Most people in the world are good. Most people are against murder. If these people have guns, then the favor shifts to the good people rather than the bad people.

Guns not only deter murderers, but they help scare away theives and rapists.

Because they are able to :P

Because our morals and ethics tell us to be on the side of justice, more or less. Also, we want our periods of brief fame ;-)

So how would banning gun ownerships slow the unlawful shooting rate among citizens again? You do know that a generous chunk of those criminals didn't really own their guns, right? I at least follow the gun ownership license principle, where you may own a gun once you go through getting the license to legally own one. Each state can have its own discretion on the means of licensing to own, as in they can create their own licensing methods.

Taking away gun ownership won't deteriorate the murder rate; it just makes us more defenseless.
