I'm just going to throw this out there... Call me crazy, or correct me, but...

It just seems like when it comes to controversial issues that could possibly conflict with certain religious views, all religious arguments are immediately classified as false, untrue, mumbo-jumbo.

Is it not okay to express your own personal beliefs about a certain issue based on what your religion says without being shunned and regarded as a closed minded fool?

Is it not okay to use the bible, the torah, the Koran, or any other religious book as your argument?

Most people as it seems on these forums would argue that you are not allowed to argue with those things because not all people believe in the same religion.

But couldn't I just as easily debunk all of your arguments because I don't believe in the same things you do?

I suppose the point I really want to get down to is why religion seems to be so widely unaccepted on these forums?

Certainly...there are no hard facts to support God's involvment, and that is a bet I'm willing to take with Pascal's Wager.

Oh, one more thing, Pascal's Wager doesn't really work. Too many flaws.

An atheist is just someone who doesn't believe in God. . . .

Firefly is right. I have a paragraph somewhere deep in this forum that tears it apart. I'll try to find it. . . .

That is if Pascal's Wager does work in the first place. If not...then tehnically I won.

No need. The wiki page of criticisms explains it adequately.

In short, it doesn't really work.

then you (if athiest) wont have athiest down on you bashing everything you say saying it "unethical", "highly improbable" etc, etc

Well, if you want to get into an argument where people are using logic, and rational thinking & you're just thumping a bible - no, you don't have to be an atheist to enjoy it.. as long as you enjoy losing the debate.

You can't measure someone's intelligence by their religion (or lack thereof). Atheists just win more often because they don't have anything to back themselves up with other than facts and logic (which is the most reliable source, don't get me wrong). I'm just saying Christians can use facts and logic and the Bible. Problem is, the Bible doesn't stand here to impress anybody when used in place of fact and logic, so relying on that ultimately makes it a weakness. It can be a strength in debating if you use it at the appropriate times, but more often than not it turns into a weakness.

Back to OP: I think agnostics have more fun. Atheists spend most of their time yelling :P

Woah woah woah! WOAH! No they don't spend more time yelling! I'm an Atheist and I don't yell unless it's necessary, people who follow what they'd call 'Christ' or anything alike don't get their hair off because they don't want to do anything to upset their massiah, Atheists are usually right in all situations as they use logic and comparison to justify their options, if some people were Atheist they would act like the crowd in any other way exept Religion, sure they might go with their relatives etc to a Mosque or Church (personally I wouldn't it's basically supporting them, which I don't) but other than anything like that they'd keep out of it, it's not fair to say that we yell because of what's right and wrong...

I am functionally atheist, but really, I don't think it's possible, or ever wise to discount anything 100%. Still, I do respect the atheist view. It does seem that the angry atheist image is perpetuated a lot, especially on these forums, however, I don't see why atheists shouldn't be angry whilst religion is putting its grubby mitts over everyone's liberty.

Arguments that base themselves off religious in non-religious topics should be easy to counter. I don't see why it should make people angry. It can be annoying, but when you're behind a computer screen, you have time to reread your response and take out the anger.
Even though I am Christian, I do agree with you. Religion does play a much bigger role than it should on these debate forums. They are about logic and reasoning, not beliefs and opinions (not backed up by logic and reasoning).
