For many years the neighbors to the south have faced political turmoil and corruption, with drug wars spilling into the streets of major cities.

http://xbradtc.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/american-flag.jpg

Poor, uneducated mexicans and their families cross the border from an unauthorized zone. They will climb mountains, cross rivers, and run from the authorities to make it into the US.

Of course, once they're in they have no money or job. So what do they do? They move into poor communities. They get menial jobs, ones that college students attempt to get. They force teenagers looking for work to quit as they accept lower wages.

Many times, illegals will rape, murder, steal and trade drugs in utter disregard for the rule of the law. They put their undisciplined children into our schools, where they will cause trouble as they have zero interest to learn.

http://www.blackagendareport.com/images/stories/101/ObamaStreet.jpg

Whose going to take care of them when a crime happens? When they go to jail? When they go to court? When they are hurt? Who pays for their attorneys, their medical bills or their protection when they will break the law at will?

We, the American citizens do. In many states, they get full benefits of citizenship without the extra responsibilities and without paperwork calling them a citizen.

I pay my taxes, I vote, I work hard to put food on the table and keep a roof over my head. Why should my job be stolen from someone who illegally entered this country? Why should my hard-earned money be given to someone who breaks the law?

The constitution says we must guarantee the rights of citizens, not illegals.

Excellent. Now let's get some over the border so they can build the wall for us.

What benefits would these be? Citizens can vote, collect social security, and have equal protection under the law. Illegal immigrants have none of these privileges.
Why should my job be stolen from someone who illegally entered this country?

What is your job, exactly? Are you a pig farmer? Do you work in a menial construction job or pick fruit? Illegal immigrants are not taking the jobs that people actually want to have.

I'm not saying that I support illegal immigration, but this inflammatory means of argumentation not only decidedly straw mans the immigrant's situation, but it completely ignores the actual relevant issues at hand.
The US-Mexico border is extensive and hard to guard. Building some kind of "barrier" would not only be extremely costly but it would most likely be fairly easily circumvented. Rather than accost these people who are simply trying to put food on their table and support their family, we should focus on the issue itself. Why are Mexicans coming illegally to America?
Illegal immigrants often have trouble finding housing and struggle to make ends meet even in this country. We should focus more on free trade and supporting the economies of neighboring countries, as this will also benefit the US economy.
Most people break laws because they have to, not because they want to; I don't see the situation here being any different. If we, as a nation, strive to support the global economy rather than some skewed since of "our" economy, perhaps there would be no need for such heavy illegal immigration.

plenty of college students are looking for a job, and plenty of people will take any job in this recession

In Illinois they are able to receive cash and other benefits without providing proof they are a US citizen. They might not have the benefits listed, but they do get benefits that the majority of citizens couldn't get no matter how much they need it.

Illegal immigrants are not taking the jobs that people actually want to have.

Given the choice of those jobs, and better jobs, of course we don't want those. However, we need those jobs. The current unemployment rate is at 9%, yet there are still illegals taking the jobs of U.S. citizens. And the employers won't fire them to make room for the citizens because they can pay them much much less.

Rather than accost these people who are simply trying to put food on their table and support their family, we should focus on the issue itself. Why are Mexicans coming illegally to America?

If everyday while you were away someone broke into your house and stole your food and money would you focus on stopping the problem, or figuring out why they did it? You would first make sure it stops happening, then you would decide how to stop it in the future.

Troll is back once again!

This thread is legit.

Not just college kids, basically anyone. There are families here that are losing their homes and having to live in homeless shelters when they don't have to be. Sure, those petty jobs aren't going to make a lot of money, but it's better than nothing.

Alot of people have jobs that they don't like, but they pay the bills and that is all that matters. My dad works as a pizza driver and he is NOT happy with that, but he works his ours and our bills get paid. THAT is why you get a job.

The US-Mexico border is extensive and hard to guard. Building some kind of "barrier" would not only be extremely costly but it would most likely be fairly easily circumvented.

Actually I have a perfect plan that I talk about alot when people say this kind of thing.

It will be 40 feet tall and made of reinforced stone. It will have barbed wire along the top so they can't grappel over or something. And underneath it will be 20 foot iron bars every 6 inches. I chose iron because it's cheaper considering there'd be so many bars. Then they can't tunnel underneath the wall. There would be stations every 75 miles. I think that adds up to about 20 stations on the border. They would have jeeps that do sweeps to designated zones every 8 hours to make sure there is no 'misconduct'. The agents posted along the wall would be equipped with rifles accurate at long distances that shoot rubber bullets. They won't kill the illegals, but will stop them. Rubber bullets are painful. The night shift will be eqiupped with night vision equipment to stop them from coming over in the night. Most of this equipment they already have. It would be costly, but it is balanced in the long run considering how much money the illegals have taken in welfare once they became citizens thanks to some idiot presidents.

Most people break laws because they have to, not because they want to

If we, as a nation, strive to support the global economy rather than some skewed since of "our" economy

That is what is ruining us as a nation. We try to help the world while we are in shambles. We are losing money thanks to our poor economy and yet we continue to have all these programs helping several other third world nations. It's time to help ourselves for once and not focus on everyone else. While it is sad that there are starving children in the world we need to take care of ourselves first before we can take care of them. Once we actaully get back to being succesful financially as a nation we can help others, but until then we need to save ourselves.

And I love whoever created this topic. I was thinking of making it myself, but I've been fairly busy lately. My thanks.

Then he is not doing a good job at it since I actually thought he was being serious...well anyways I am not sure what to say about this topic, though building a wall will just make it to where illegal immigrants from Mexico, will do the same thing as people from Cuba. come in by boat or raft around the wall, unless they also make provisions for that as well, which is unlikely.

It would also be very expensive. Don't think that's quite in the budget right now.

The subject's legit. The wall isn't. Illegal immigration does nothing for economies but replace well payed jobs with ones that have massive injury rates and very high injury rates. See Fast Food Nation for further details on that, it covers the meatpacking industry very extensively.

It would be nice, but no. It's highly impractical. They've got a wall in Arizona, Texas has the Rio Grande, and New Mexico mountainified. Yet they still cross. I think that they should be duely punished for coming here illegally. Hence tent city. The land of meth heads, drunk drivers and illegals. I also think a way to dissuade employers from doing this is to make it punishable by up to 25 years. I believe that is a class 1 felony, basically screwing your whole life up. Illegals + No work = No illegals.
