Since I have joined Armorgams . . .I see a lot of Atheists and their threads about why people believe in God etc . . . I wanted to start a thread about the bible and christianity.
The purpose of this thread is to debate a different book of the bible each week. We will discuss lessons, morals, and different stories.
We will have friendly debates. Please . . . if you are atheist or of other beliefs . . . you may discuss in this thread, just PLEASE no fighting, flaming, spamming, trolling . . . etc
This week we will begin from the beginning . . . .Genesis
You're in Guangxi? Very cool. I haven't been so far south, so you'll have to tell me more about it.
I'm an Indonesian, but my parents and grandparents are Chinese. My Grandpa have 12 children and my Grandma have 11 children so, all of them can play a soccer in a field, it's called 'family soccer' lol.
I study Chinese here for 2 years, then I will take my Master here. Hope I have enough brain and not to into AG haha!
Wait is that the guy who like threw his comrade into the sea to please God and then he got swallowed up by Leviathan? He stayed there for three days to think it over and just walked right out.
The only thing I have to say is that whales are *not* fish so I think Christianity should decide on 'whale' or 'big fish' before I get annoyed at them for inaccurate phrasing. >.<
look I'm Catholic and you wonder why people think were loony's
The only bad catholic I've really met is my stepmom :P --- Anyways the story of Jonah is something along the lines of:
God wanted Jonah to preach somewhere, but it was a dangerous place, so Jonah took a boat to get far away from there. But a big storm came and Jonah told the sailors that to stop the storm he had to be thrown overboard. So Jonah got thrown into the ocean and then gets swallowed by a big fish. For the days Jonah sits in there, before getting spit out right at the spot where he was trying to flee. So he preaches, then leaves and waits for God to smite the city.
Thats all I can remember, but theres something about a tree to keep Jonah shady, but if dies...
Kirby...telling someone to chill like that in the middle of a discussion is basically a sign of surrender. There are better replies you could have come up with.
The best reply, alt, is that the Hebrew language had its limitations. In this case, "large fish" and "whale" were the same word; in fact, different translations typically go one way or the other.
