I don't want a longer school day, if it gets too long I won't even get enough time to do my homework! C'mon Obama, don't do this!

Only the local legislation can set school day times.

Not necessarily. Any politician can set minimum requirements. He could say "All children must go to school for 12 hours, and no less." And it could legally pass. He can't say "All children must go to school between 7:30am and 8:30pm."

See?

though. It's objective in every way possible.

yeah I believe the only time I ever watched C-Span they were covering a third party debate.

However, the Executive Branch has no authority over this, it is local governmental legislation that does.

Well Congress could probably change this if they wanted to though.

I think different. I could see many of us becoming thinner.

BECAUSE:

We would have to have an outside break. Recess of sorts.
The school would supply us with 2 out of 3 meals a day, and then have a snack time.
P.E. would probably come in two periods out of say, 9.

That's why :P

Obama needs to remember that a lot of students today, will be voting in the next election. If he signs a law increasing the minimum time students must be in class, he'll lose a ton of votes.

That would be a silly reason not to vote for a president. Kinda selfish really.

Let's follow your lead and vote for the guy who sounds the best, and not the guy who put us through hell every single day, for twice as long as we need to be.

If he did it, even you would be pissed. Even the most selfless person would.

I do barely anything in my classes. I wouldn't mind. I'd just chat to my fat friends who will become nerds.

I think he should just move the hours around. I think it sucked when I had to get up freakin early just to get to school by 7am. It's been proven in other countries that starting teens later raises test scores. Now, I still have to get up early, but it's not as bad because class starts at 9:35. College is awesome. It's going to SUCK if he changes summer vacation though.

Also, on top of him not being allowed to do that, it's the legislative branch that controls school, not the executive branch.

Silly or not, that would influence most high school students votes quite heavily.

He would need to sign the bill into law though. I doubt they would be able to over ride his veto, since getting a 2/3 majority vote for anything is virtually impossible with the U.S.'s current political system.

exactly. Republicans aren't willing to engage in ANY bipartisanship efforts that wouldn't be completely and solely for their gain, and so (us) Democrats are going to return the favor.

You do realize I could reverse that statement and it would be entirely true?

actually, democrats were TRYING to help republicans and engage in bipartisanship efforts earlier in the year (Obama was taking extra time to try and make the Republicans feel like they are actually doing something). but, the Republicans didn't want to, they keep saying the exact opposite of whatever the Democrats say, and they're finally not Warhawks anymore, just when Obama wants to actually attack TALIBAN.

what a wonderful time for the Republicans to all of a sudden say that we don't need to be in the Middle East, eh? Fucking hypocrites.

i have to go for now, so i'll be back later to make some late-debates on whatever you have to say.
