Strop made a thread about this a long time ago, but I couldn't find it. Even if I did, I would get yelled at for raising the dead, so lets just continue conversation here.

You guys may not understand what I'm trying to ask, but it's okay. I'll try to explain.

Do you think God, If there is one, would allow a person to go back in time and change history?

This thread is mostly for Christians, but you atheist may join in too. Since I'm an atheist I think this will be interesting.

But if there was a change in the past, how do we know that there aren't imperceptible shiftings of reality. If the past was changed, wouldn't it immediately change in our minds simultaneously? By that logic then we could have already time travelled in the future, and are already time travelling and changing the past, and the present is changing constantly. If the past changes shiftlessly we can't realize there was a difference. Or the time traveling has already occured in history giving us our present history, but then that would be a paradox again.
Did that make sense to anyone? We can't know something unknowable.

hmm well an interesting idea came up what if all those big things in the old testament were cause of technology from the future like those people who turned into salt at sodem and gahmorah or how joshua kept the sun from setting those kind of big epic things

Yeah, that is a very interesting thought. But it is highly illogical. How could technology cause the sun to stop setting? That was Gods work. And also the people who wrote the Bible basically got told everything by God while they were writing it. But God wouldn't put anything into the Bible that technology caused.

Owen, I'm sure if there is another species of life out there right now, they are thinking the EXACT same thing as me.

well, we haven't proved there's other forms of life either, and yet you rule out time travel as a possibility.

Einstein may have been smart, but don't treat his theories as an undeniable truth.

The ability to be able or not to travel to time isn't luck. Also, not every scientist as there are tachyon theorists and what not out there.

Not all scientists agree but according to Einstein and quantum theory, time travel could be possible.

God's plan could involve going back to change history and making history by doing so.

Well . . .

If God does exist then 'no'. Shortly after Yuri Gagarin reached space (first man in space for you silly people that do not know), it was said "I don't see any god up here", and shortly after that line was stated publicly as that was stated God was suddenly outside the Universe.

Before that, God has surrounded Earth, only watching down on Earth, as soon as we got the ability to see Him, He moved.

Now if we get the ability to see him (front row seats to the creation of the Universe, please?), by that I mean time travel to the start of the Universe, then we'd see God. I guess He does not want to be seen according to what happened after Yuri Gagarin's little speech. So trying to see Him with time travel is strictly forbidden.

If he does not exist, whom is there to stop us?

Gah! I must be tired! I meant 'and shortly after that line was stated publicly God was suddenly outside the Universe'.

Even though I doubt there is a God, I'll just pan out the arguement from different sides:

- Time travel could stop something really bad happening
- But it could do unknown effects
- While this could all be the better, even if you don't realise
- And you would take the chance?
- The less time you travel back in, the less risk
- So a War, happening now.. You would stop?
- Why not?
- You have no idea what could happen.
- Well, yeah... damn...

That's pretty much how a discussion could go - I'm not saying someone is talking with God, but that's how it could happen. I doubt "God" would allow it, well actually, he doesn't stop much of anything, so he would, but wouldn't approve.

- H

I think he would allow it such that we can only see into the past, I doubt we can interfere with the past... seeing as how yeah, you disturb even one atom that can affect the world to come...

If there is God up there (the Christian God anway's) why would he care? In fact doesn't the Bible say everything is set and predetermined? So that would mean time travel is predetermined.
