Can you trust your senses. Do you really know that what you see, feel and hear are true. Iv read books my whole life relating to this topic. Ones that come to mind are Jonathan Seagull, Illusions and the holographic universe. MageGreyWolf also sent some interesting links on this same subject.

What are your thoughts people.

There have been some studies in the past few years showing that there is a high probability that this universe is a simulation. This would certainly explain a lot, given the physical anomalies at the quantum level that we have observed.
Perhaps the physical laws of this universe aren't working out the way they should because they're simply being simulated by a computer. Consider playing a video game and looking out onto a lake. You see the water shimmering from the sun's rays. But the computer doesn't actually calculate the angle of the light, each spot in the water for it's rate of refraction and come up with this ridiculous equation for sunlight. It just simulates what shimmering water looks like - close enough to get by.

There are some philosophical consequences to this, however. Notably, what you should do if you expect you're a simulation. If you don't want to be "deleted" maybe you should act as interestingly as possible. This sort of throws morality out the window entirely, though. As well as our thoughts about our own intrinsic nature.

Hmm that is very interesting... that could explain how some people just "disappear" as well lol. wow... very interesting. I hope we're not a simulation xD

Well wouldn't that be fantastic! >.>

I mean you never know but how people actually believe in their own perspective that they are real.. Confusing I know.

So, you too find Empiricism fascinating? Or at least what the meaning of it is? It's pretty difficult to fully comprehend, perceiving what really is real from what really is fake, and all of a sudden taking what you know to be the truth and claim it to be in reverse.

Isn't there a dead, more-in-depth version of this topic called "existence"?

Where's dat thread? DX

If this universe is a simulation, does that mean there are other universes? That are NOT simulations?

Yep, that is a direct consequence of this line of thought. It does seem to entail some kind of existence.

Just 10 planets that orbits a big hot ball?

Your numbers are a bit off even if you count Pluto.

alternate universes are another thing entirely, ryonic. Such things like black holes that, when sucked inside, transport you to another point in time, to another dimension, to an alternate universe, to an alternate tangent.

(That'd be freaky, to be in the same time where different things happened. Say, being transported to the year 2000 where Gore won instead of Bush. Family Guy reference, but again, that's the definition of an alternate tangent.)

But, if this universe was a simulation, there would have to be another universe to run this one, so yeah, that would make sense.

Aren't the "Worm Holes" that takes you to another dimension, or non-simulating universe? I thought black holes just sucks everything "Erases" it?

That's what scientists aren't really sure about. Many theories about them, but the two we said are the main ones. I like mine though. Black Holes just eat stuff, including light? That's waaaay too dangerous to think about.

( taking a break to watch Bleach )

I'm pretty sure there's a theory on them saying they ''Transport or Teleport'' you to another part of the universe and that it could land anywhere.. of course though this is just something I heard about.

We should really have a break and stop talking about those highly advanced science question... Go to sleep now... zzz.

Lol.. People can talk about it if they want to Also some people have different time zones >.>

Also, I have no idea if your being sarcastic or not

I thought the exact location of a photon when it collapses down from a wave, (to use your lake example) isn't completely random. Heisenberg uncertainty principle and all that.

Personally, my gripe with the idea about computer simulation is more to do with the storage of information and massive amounts of processing power necessary to keep the illusion going.
