the kid probly thinks that the pledge says he is free so they cant force he to stand.
But by not stanfing, he is, in a sense, rejecting that freedom.
Kid may be smart, but he's just asking for trouble. If he genuinely cares (not that he doesn't), then he should avoid trouble for himself and do something more, euh, direct. And respect his elders more.
He doesn't have to do anything different. Freedom of Speech has been protected in every Supreme Court decision regarding situations in which people refuse to stand/sit/sing/say something for the country silently. He's not bothering anyone, it's not a problem.
And he's not doing it for fun or because he can. He's doing it because he doesn't like homophobics.
To the thought that what he's doing won't have any kind of real effect - it does have us talking about it. It had the news media talking about it, which undoubtedly means that lots of other people are thinking and talking about it.
Continuing to protest in such a fashion will not likely have anything more to gain, but I think he's doing the right thing.
Green -
I stand for the pledge of allegiance, not because I agree with the ideals of any certain administration or lobbyist group, but because in America we are ensured basic rights.
I think that's why he's not standing - his opinion is that not everyone in the U.S.A. is currently entitled to those 'ensured' basic rights; and I'd agree with that sentiment.

I agree and this is the basis for change... Talking about views I have is the only way I know to help change. And Im too lazy to get off my rear :P
America is a privilege and not a right, the boy should be thankful he doesn't live in a third-world country.
Its not a right, he was born into it. Its like saying the kings son earned the right to rule only because he IS the kings son. He didnt earn anything. Power is a privilege and should be earned.
Um, they are called rights he is practicing he rights.
He has the right to do it but I dont think he understands what he is doing. I think he just wants attention, sorry. I mean I dont see why he is on the news and stuff he is just doing what he has likely been told is right, not the not standing up for the pledge but the gay rights thing. I mean ever sense I was eight Ive thought the pledge was a lie and knew that the liberty and justice for all crap.
Anyway kid just wants attention and he is getting it by talking about a currant debate in society.
âWith all due respect, ma'am, you can go jump off a bridge.' â
Ha, I like this kid, he sounds exactly like me except more polite. No one had the right to make him stand and he stood up to them. If you notice, it was also a substitute teacher, they always seem to take the most offense if you don't do exactly what they say.
