ya they may have formed in the 80's but they were the most popular in the 90's so how dare you doubt me =)
and cattle decapitation may have only had one release before 2000 but human jerky was one of my favorite metal albums of all time

IMO the best metal band would have to be Dark Tranquillity (Melodic Death metal)
Their entire discography is just amazing. The Gallery and Damage done are probably their best albums, but even their less critically acclaimed albums are fantastic.
